Roku LXR Kyoto

We had the chance to stay at this beautiful property during our engagement trip to Japan. I’m an aspire card holder and we burned 2 FNC for this stay, also was able to use the resort credit to get SPA for both of us. This was right after cherry blossom, mid April.

Here are some pros and cons from the two night stay:

Pros:
The service is immaculate, check in process is actually done in your room, the staff will take you up and introduce all the amenities. Room is also upgraded, with special treats for our occasion.

The property is quiet, it makes you feel really Zen. I was feeling so relaxed in my room that I almost fell asleep after check in. We had a great time getting the spa, if you only have one aspire ($200 credit) you will probably pay a little more to cover spa for two people. (17,000 yen per person for 60 minutes)

Room is spacious, bed is very comfortable, and the scent of the hotel helped me feel calm. You won’t run into many guests here either, the busiest time would be breakfast.

In room onsen was also a plus, definitely big enough for two people. If you get the garden rooms, I think those are even bigger. It also has the rain shower, which reminds us of the PHNY, we love it. We also love the pajamas, which we took home with us after.

There are amenities you can request on the tv, lots of different things you can order or rent, free of charge. In room mini bar is free for diamond members, but only the chips, chocolate and sodas.

Luggage forwarding was easy, the concierge takes care of everything for you. They would even come up to your room to pick up the suitcases, and the price is around 2500 yen for each of the big ones we had.

Japanese garden in the back is also free for the hotel guests, it’s actually very pretty, definitely worth to check out. Not too far of a walk from the hotel and there are also a few restaurants on the way.

Cons:
Location is remote, we had to take city bus 6 for about 40 minutes from the Kyoto station, then walk another 10 ish minutes to the property. We ended up taking taxis the following days because the wait for the bus is too long for us. Even though taxis are not as expensive as Tokyo, still would cost $20-$30 just going to the touristy areas of Kyoto.

Breakfast is not on par with the price tag of the hotel, cash rate for the nights we stayed at is around $700 or 150k points. We also stayed at Conrad Osaka which offers way more variety than here. I wouldn’t say the breakfast is bad, it’s just very average for a property like this.

We would also probably not pay cash to stay here, FNC and burning the resort credit was the main reason we chose this property over Hilton Kyoto. If you are looking to pay cash I would stay closer to the main area of Kyoto, just more convenient and less expensive probably.

Overall, we really loved the stay, would probably go back again once we have more FNCs. Or we might even just burn the points to do 5 nights there.
