A New Run to Try: the RNGLocke

I came up with a nuzlocke that’ll really test how forgiving (or punishing) rng can truly be in a run.

Play FireRed/LeafGreen and follow hardcore nuzlocke rules (if a pokemon faints they are dead, set battle mode, level caps, no outside healing, etc.) but here’s the catch: you can only use moves with LESS THAN 100% ACCURACY! This means you can only use Bulbasaur or Squirtle as starters for this run, since Charmander knows the 100% accurate scratch and therefore cannot beat Blue.

After that, continue through the run, making sure to only use moves that are NOT guaranteed to hit. Wing Attack? Nope, gotta use Fly. Thunderbolt? Not a chance, use Thunder instead. Flamethrower? Replace it with Fire Blast. However, HMs like cut and surf are permitted but only to progress in the game, not in battle.

It’s a very high-risk, high-reward run that’ll be a true test of your luck! If anyone ends up trying this run, please let me know! I’d love to hear if anyone tries it!

[Black 2/White 2] How to (Almost) Guarantee the Kyurem and Ghetsis Fights With Guaranteed Encounters in a Hardcore Nuzlocke

I just completed the Kyurem and Ghetsis back-to-back fight in Black 2 in Normal Mode, and had an almost-perfect strategy to beat them with minimal sacrifices. If you want to copy it, here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Mienshao
  2. N’s Zoroark
  3. A Pokémon to sacrifice
  4. A Pecha Berry
  5. A normal-type Pokemon
  6. 16 Blue Shards

You can guarantee a Mienfoo for your run by 1) catching Basculin/Marill from surfing in Relic Passage, 2) catching the other species you didn’t catch before from surfing at Village Bridge, and 3) using Repel Trick on Route 22. With a level 47 Pokemon at the head of your party, Mienfoo will be the only non-dupe encounter to appear in the doubles grass. N’s Zorua is a guaranteed Pokemon in Driftveil City. The sacrificial ‘mon can be anything you don’t want to use in your Nuzlocke encounters. Funnily enough, mine was a low-level Trubbish. Pecha berries can be found from Pokemon rangers, and the normal-type Pokemon can be found on many routes, but Audino can be a guaranteed normal-type encounter in lots of shaking grass. Finally, the 16 blue shards can be farmed in Reversal Mountain, but you should stock up on max repels to speed up the grind.

Bring your Zoroark to the Lentimas Town Move Tutor and teach it Dark Pulse and Hyper Voice for the Blue Shards. Then, grind it to level 54 so it learns Nasty Plot, and make sure its moveset consists of Nasty Plot, Hyper Voice, Dark Pulse and Taunt. Finally, give Zoroark a Pecha Berry to hold.

Mienshao should also be grinded up to the mid-50s. Make sure its moveset includes U-Turn and High Jump Kick. As for items, you could use either a Wide Lens for accuracy or a Fighting Gem for power, though this is riskier due to HJK’s accuracy.

Before you battle Kyurem, put Mienshao as the lead and the normal-type in the sixth slot do your party, so that Zoroark copies the normal-type using Illusion. When the battle begins, click U-turn on the first turn. This should do about 15-20% to Kyurem. Send in your sacrifice to go down to Kyurem’s next move. Send Mienshao back in, and HJK should KO Kyurem after U-Turn chip (if unsure, you could EV train in attack and do damage calcs to guarantee the KO). If HJK misses, I’m sorry…

After Kyurem is defeated and the Ghetsis battle begins, use U-turn on Mienshao and immediately swap into Zoroark. It’ll be disguised as your normal-type pokemon in the back of your party. Chances are Cofagrigus will go for Toxic, but you’ll take no damage thanks to the held Pecha Berry, and the illusion will still be up. Then, immediately Taunt Cofagrigus so it can’t use Toxic again.

Here’s the fun part: Cofagrigus will not go for Shadow Ball since normal types are immune, and Zoroark is still immune to Psychic despite the illusion. Still, however, Cofagrigus will spam Psychic until Taunt wears off. Use this time to build up to +6 special attack with Nasty Plot, setting up more taunts as needed so Zoroark isn’t poisoned. Then, outspeed Ghetsis’ entire team and spam Dark Pulse (for the Pokémon that don’t resist Dark-type moves) and Hyper Voice (which should be a guaranteed kill at +6 against Drapion, Hydreigon, and Toxicroak) and escape the Giant Chasm with only one death.

Hopefully this guide can help people for future nuzlockes!!
