Differences between vertical mag vs horizontal mag?

Ive always been curious if there was ever any sort of performance differences/benefits between SMGs that use a vertical magazine like the Sten or the Czech ZK-383 vs the SMGs that use vertical mags like the Thompson or the PPSH. Does having the mag feed from the side feed better than having it feed upward? Was it a case of the militaries that used them wanting a gun that could be shot from a laying/prone position like how the US military preferred the internal mag of the M1 Garand because it didnt have a box sticking out? And you really dont see guns nowadays using a side-mag, so im curious if there was inherent issues that caused them to come out of modern adoption.

Metal Gear Solid 2 source code leaked, Future Dreamcast port?

So recently the source code for Metal Gear solid 2 HD was leaked onto 4chan, including the source code for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PS Vita ports of the game. Speculation is that it might have come from Armature Studio, the devs that handled the PS Vita port for the collection.

While there's been alot speculated about this leak, including the possibility that this source code also includes parts of MGS2 that were apparently cut from the original release after 9/11, the most interesting aspect that gets me excited is the possibility that we could see this source code lead to unofficial ports to other platforms.

So i have to ask: what is the potential likelihood that we see a proper source port of Metal Gear Solid 2 for the Dreamcast?

I was always fascinated by the proposed "Dreamcast VMU MP3 Player" concept Sega came out with right before the Dreamcast died. Apparently it was gearing up to be a legit run at potentially a pre-Apple product/service. (more on that later). Im curious if the product woudl have actually been successful given several factors:

  1. The Hardware itself - While Sega proved it was able to make the Virtual Memory Units themselves, fabricating audio hardware is no easy task. There's a reason why at the time you only saw dedicated audio companies like Rio, Creative, and Sony getting into the portable MP3 market. they had the tooling and know-how to make good audio products. Unless Sega was willing to partner with someone on that level at the time, I question the quality of a player like this, considering the aforementioned competition at the time.

  2. The Delivery services - At the time the news was that Sega was working with MP3.com to provide audio for this device. Aside from that, there isnt much to explain what that means. Would they have provided dedicated software for the console that would have allowed you to connect to their music service? Would it have been built into the web browser that came with the console? Would you have to use your PC to access the website and download the music from there? And given MP3.com died in 2003, what sort of future would the device have had beyond that?

  3. The Ipod coming out in 2001. Need I say more.

I think while a neat idea, like the Dreamcast Zip Drive attachment also planned, it would have been just a novelty for the console and not something that would have been properly fleshed out.
