Recently watched Dhootha (2023). While Dhootha marks a stylish entry into the supernatural thriller space, it’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room: it feels like a spiritual (and literal) successor to 13B: Fear Has a New Address. From the central conceit of a medium (news clippings instead of a TV show) predicting a family's demise to the eventual "framed mass suicide".

Ep. 4 - How is the DCP this accurate? The surveillance part — cameras, phone tapping — fine, you can take that as cinematic liberty. But knowing exactly where to look every single time?

From finding the empty bleach box in the garbage to instantly concluding “generator room” — bingo. Then estimating weight from a footprint impression? And the jump to Reddy’s farmhouse… where, in an entire property, she lands on the exact burial spot — all within 15 minutes. That’s not investigation, that’s clairvoyance.

Also, Ramba felt unnecessarily dumbed down. They’re literally excavating because they know something’s there, and he suddenly goes, “Oh, there’s something,” and runs to inform the DCP. That was the whole point of digging, bro.

Ep. 5 - The interaction between Kiran Reddy and Sagar Verma felt very staged — almost artificial. Even the voicemail detail didn’t track: she says she received it in the afternoon, but her phone clearly shows 9:00. Small detail, but it breaks immersion.

Ep. 6 - The DCP is basically a walking Google search at this point. Random facts, instant theories — like casually stating that banyan tree roots go 15 feet deep, then building a full hypothesis around body concealment. And not just that — she validates her own theory by calling it “brilliant,” even before any actual verification.

Ep. 8 - The DCP is suspicious of everything gets exactly correct in the first view. The door latch clue? Picked up in seconds — if not milliseconds. There’s barely any process, just instant conclusions.

The Amrutha and her husband arc that was genuinely disturbing. After nearly being killed, she asks her husband to kill Sagar’s unborn child — and the guy actually goes on a rampage after almost killing her wife (Amrutha) just by knowing about Sagar.

He was not just angry on Amrutha cheating him. He seemed to need serious help, he literally killed the security guard, Sagar's father-in-law, almost Sagar's wife and the baby. For what? Cause Amrutha killing herself? Bro, you just almost killed her cause of cheating, why the sympathy towards her? And if that is just anger, even Amrutha had cheated you. Focus, she was not some child whom Sagar has manipulated. Just cause Sagar has unhinged Amrutha after having sex with her doesn't make Sagar the final boss villan and Amrutha killing herself because her affair didn’t work out? Cause Sagar came as loving husband and not in consideration to you? That felt hollow. Girl, you cheated, and at no point she seemed emotionally attached to Sagar before, just came as a shock to audience as well as Sagar at the hospital. Worst writting.

At end, When the DCP is handed the new project file at the end, I genuinely felt like she’d crack the entire case before even opening it. That’s the level of over-efficiency the character has reached.

Questions

  1. And why the ghost killed the youtube lady? Where did she got corrupted?

  2. Why dismantle the lighthouse printing machine in the end? And isn’t it hollow and selfish, that getting justice you forgetting your values and principle, keep killing the corrupted journalist. I mean there is impossible you have killed every corrupted journalist. And why stop at just corrupted journalist?
