Suitability and TS clearance for DHS with fed job term on record
I’m posting this for my friend who doesn’t use Reddit much and doesn’t have enough karma to post.
He applied for an 1811 position with DHS but **not** ICE or HSI. Requires TS clearance. Got his TJO and completed the background investigation which is now being adjudicated. As expected, he got a NOPA (notice of proposed action?) to explain the circumstances of his dismissal from an old fed job.
What he’s told me- he got dismissed during probation for failure to perform to management standards. His SF50 supports that as does his letter of termination. Basically, he didn’t get along with management from the beginning. No policy violations, security violations, theft, misconduct etc. He was told he was not a good fit for that agency.
I was a reference for him and said truthful, positive things. As did other prior coworkers, supervisors, so on. He’s had stable, clean employment before and after that job.
He responded to the NOPA timely, took accountability, showed growth etc (we found some templates online), and is now waiting. What should he expect next? There is no online tracker or anything to see if/when his suitability is decided.
He’s been stressing immensely because this is the only blemish in his record and now feels it may be the end of his 1811 dreams.
Any thoughts or experiences from people in similar situations are welcome.
