Is the accomplice's crime equal to that of the killer?
Imagine there are two men and a woman. One of the men is charging at the woman with a knife, she is about to defend herself with her gun but before she can, the accomplice rips the gun out of her hand and runs away with it. The woman is subsequently stabbed to death by the other man. How do you evaluate the accomplice's actions?
