Should I accept a PhD offer in NeuroAI [D]

Hi everyone.

I am recent CS grad and I have received a PhD offer from a school in states. However I am deeply confused if I should accept it or not.

My hesitation comes from the interdisciplinary nature of the program. It will be jointly supervised by the two professors, one from biomedical and one from ML domain. I always wanted to work on the foundational aspect of the AI and to publish in A* conferences in AI, so I am not sure if it is a right choice.

The other option for me is to wait and work on enhancing my profile. Get another paper or two published in respected venues and apply again. I have a decent profile, with couple of internships and research papers, and >90% cgpa.

Moreover, I believe I can do foundational stuff much better than the applied one so my biggest fear is that I accept the offer and later get to know that the AI part is very trivial and minimal. It might lead to the mental frustration and lower productivity.

What should I do in this case? If anyone has been a part of such a interdisciplinary programs, please do share your experience.

Thanks!

Eureka ! My flaw detection algorithm on PAUT is working surprisingly well. Help me validate it, plz !

Hi everyone, so the thing I wrote an algorithm as part of my research on flaw/crack detection from PAUT scans, and it is surprisingly fast and accurate. Gives the F1 score of ~0.90. The main problem however is that I have limited private data to test it on.

Can someone help me validate my algorithm by providing me with few (or even one) PAUT scan/s and giving some feedback on the accuracy of the results. I would be grateful.

Feel free to comment/dm if it seems interesting.

Hey, I moved to Germany in April 2026 for as a international student. I’ve done the city registration/Anmeldung (which means my address is now officially in their records) and have a student visa valid until Sept 2026. However I have not applied for the student residence permit (as people usually apply for it when their visa is about to expire).

Now, I have gotten into a US grad school and need to apply for an F-1 visa. The U.S. Department of State says apply in your country of nationality or residence, so I’m unsure where I stand.

  1. Can I apply from Germany (e.g., U.S. Embassy Berlin)?
  2. Or do I need to go back to my home country?
  3. Does Anmeldung + visa count as “residence” without a residence permit?

Trying to avoid an unnecessary trip, but also don’t want to risk rejection.

Anyone been in this situation?
