Hello, made my second batch of MCT Oil infused with bud today. I tried to do it in the most optimal way based on what people say on Reddit but I still have some questions. Here is a rundown on my process.
I use my oven so I preheated it to 230F
I also preheated a 6x6 Pyrex dish and covered it loosely with tinfoil. I used a temp probe poked through the tinfoil to monitor the internal temp. Made sure the probe was suspended in the air and not touching the Pyrex for best temp reading
Used 15 grams of grounded up flower, spread it evenly in preheated Pyrex dish
After putting the Pyrex dish back in the oven with the flower, it took about 10 mins to get back to an internal temp of 235-240F. I started a 35 min timer once it was within range. I made sure it didn’t go over 240F and lower than 235F.
After it was done decarbing I poured the flower into a mason jar with 2oz of MCT oil w/ .5g powdered sunflower lecithin.
I infused in a water bath with the lid finger tight at 160F for 5 hours. I stirred it well at the 2 and 4 hr marks. I read about bubbles being an indicator it was done and observed some bubbles rising up after taking out and stirring after 5 hours.
I was aiming for 50mg/ml give or take.
Is straining the finished product a must? Only thing I’m concerned of is mold growth possibly. I consume the oil in caps so taste and stuff is no issue. I feel like I’d be wasting so much as I can just put the plant material in the caps as well. Couldn’t I also just add more oil to the flower once I consume it all? This batch will be consumed within a month most likely. Sealed in a mason jar, stored in a room temp dark cabinet.
