Government Day at Ereckson Middle School

Constable Steve Asher, Judge Jennifer Edgeworth and I got to run a government simulation at Ereckson Middle School. Students passed a bill, arrested a classmate for violating the new law, and tried them before a jury of their peers. These kids were sharp and super engaged. Thanks for having us, and have a great summer, Ereckson!

Every single person in Texas pays property tax, even if you don't think you do.

You're about to get your appraisal in the mail. After you pick yourself up off the floor, join Shelby Williams and Scott Grigg to find out what it means, why your taxes are so high, and what you can do about it.

The deadline to file a protest is May 15th. We offer this every year as a free public service and sell nothing (not even a timeshare).

Shelby Williams served six years on Plano City Council, and is a current candidate for Collin County Commissioner, Precinct 4. He has been active in property tax reform efforts for many years.

Scott Grigg is the elected Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector, better known as Tax Protector.

I’ve been disturbed by an increasing number of people around Plano, Frisco, and Allen demanding to know, “What are you going to do about all the Indians?”

They're asking about Indians already legally in America moving to our community. Our Indian friends follow the same call of freedom and opportunity as people from all over the world. It’s the same call that keeps native-born Americans here.

Setting aside questions about H1-B visas, which should be addressed to Members of Congress, Liberty is for everyone. America’s Founding Fathers fought a War of Independence 250 years ago this year for freedom above all else.

We should embrace all who come here legally, seeking the freedom and opportunity America offers. To do any less is to dishonor our Founders and the sacrifice of all who fought and died to make this country what it is.

More than that, the original promise of America, before there was even an America, was the freedom to worship according to the dictates of your conscience. I’m Christian, and I’ll defend that right to the death for my Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, and all other brothers and sisters. We are brothers and sisters because we are all children of God first, and everything else second.

So I’ll tell you what I’m going to do about the Indians: I’m going to welcome them with open arms, and share my deep love of America, grounded in Truth, Justice, and Liberty, and I’m going to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and of Texas, as I took an oath to do.

I was proud to join so many friends in the celebration of Allen's 150th birthday at Allen 150 Fest yesterday! Hats off to the army of volunteers who made this possible!

Allen started as a stop on the Houston & Texas Central rail line, and has become one of the great cities in Collin County. Yesterday's celebration screamed community and good ol' fashioned Allen pride with friends and neighbors out in force, and kids mobbing the megalopolis of bounce houses.

Among the great things about Allen are the upcoming Kalahari and the CUTX Event Center. The Allen Americans have given our area high-octane hockey worth bragging about, regardless of whether the Dallas Stars end up moving to Plano. Watters Creek and the Outlets are worthy destinations, and it's all underscored by a thriving small-business community.

Allen ISD is sought after by parents everywhere, and Allen Police and Fire are top-notch.

None of this happens by accident. It takes intentionality and passion for preserving everything that makes our community great, and I'd be incredibly proud to represent Allen on the Commissioners Court alongside Plano and far north Dallas.

Until then, Happy Birthday, Allen! Here's to 150 more!
