My only two complaints in an otherwise fantastic show

  1. The reveal that Janet knew Ben was the Spider:

I thought the series up until the reveal was implying she was just as in-the-loop as Robbie. So when she said she already knew and Ben was shocked, it was a bit jarring. I’m making up that Ben had just temporarily drunkenly forgot from all the alcohol.

  1. The reveal that this character WASN’T Ben Reilly after all but Peter Parker using an alias:

I really like Ben over Peter. I HATE Marvel’s treatment of him ever since they brought him back. They are literally dragging him through the mud. So when this series advertised that they swapped out Peter for Ben, I was so excited. And then Freckles just ruined it when he said he’d have contacted Ben earlier if he hadn’t changed his name.

Otherwise fantastic show. I was a little leery about Nicolas Cage, not due to his acting skills; he has what it takes to do a great job, but his age. I am bummed he said he probably won’t be back for a second season since he likes the story as-is as self-contained.

Good age to start helping mow?

My son just turned 10. I’m considering buying him a 13” electric push mower to help mow the yard while I multitask by supervising and using a larger model.

I feel like a 13” electric would be extremely light weight for him to handle. And its shorter battery life (30 minutes) could be his stopping point so he doesn’t get overheated or overworked. I feel that would be reasonable.

I was helping my dad mow at that age. Maybe even a bit younger and I used a gas push mower until I earned my dad’s trust to use the rider. (I have an old rider but while my son would be helping, I’d use my push mower too so he didn’t feel cheated.)

Am I correct to think he’s old enough to expand his weekend chores to include helping mow? He doesn’t have a long list to begin with. His list currently has:

Keep your bedroom tidy.

Keep your playroom tidy.

Feed & water your pets.

Throw laundry down laundry chute on Sundays.

Set the table for dinner.

Clean up your messes.

With today’s high gas prices and no end in sight, is electric a wise way to go?

I have a pretty big yard and 3 mowers.

I have an old John Deere Hydro 175 rider.

I have I what I think is an old Craftsman push mower.

And I have a new LawnMaster OcuMow VBRM16. It’s a robot. I call it RoboChop.

I mainly ride the John Deere because I’m lazy and I have RoboChop mowing the other half of my yard. When I’m ready to move to Robo’s side, I mainly only have to do minor spot checks. I use the push mower to squeeze into nooks the John Deere won’t fit in.

But gas is so expensive now. I cringe when a mower runs dry. I’m considering selling my Craftsman on Facebook Marketplace and replacing it with a LawnMaster CLM2413A push mower. It’s electric and battery powered so I wouldn’t be dragging an extension cord.

The battery allegedly goes for 30-40 minutes on reasonably tall grass and comes with 2 batteries. The batteries are the same as what RoboChop uses and I already have 2 of them so I’d have 4 total. They only take about 40 minutes to charge.

I realize it would be more physical work resorting to push mowing. The CLM2413A is a tiny 13” deck but with the excess of batteries I’d have, how long they last and how fast they charge, I feel like I wouldn’t ever run out of power and could stop worrying about the high cost of gas.

Does this sound like a good plan? Aside from RoboChop, I’ve never owned an electric mower. Would I be making a grave mistake trading my 24” gas push mower for a 13” electric? I feel like RoboChop does a decent job, but would the electric push mower lack enough power? Has anyone made the switch? Do you regret it?

AIO: Making my son sit down to pee

My son just turned 10. For YEARS, he’s had a real problem with his aim when peeing. I’ve had to endure my wife throwing a tantrum whenever there’s pee on the floor, the rim, or the seat. The seat was always inexcusable but I understood the rim and floor due to backsplash and we’d just have to be better about cleaning and mopping.

But the amount of pee on the rim and floor was excessive. There’s no way his backsplash could be that bad.

One unfortunate day he forgot to lock the door and I walked in on him and he was not aiming at all. He had his hands on his hips and just letting fate decide where his pee went.

I was livid and I made him clean his own mess. I told him moving forward if I ever found piss all over the toilet area everywhere BUT the water, that I would make him clean it up. I had hoped he’d get tired of this and eventually start peeing correctly. He knows better so I can’t fathom why he’s doing this.

It never got better. So I gave him an ultimatum a couple of weeks ago. If I saw pee on or around the toilet one more time, he was sit down to pee like a girl until further notice. That seemed to motivate him and I had a clean toilet for a couple of weeks.

Until today.

Piss everywhere.

I made him clean it up again but I told him he is now sitting down to pee while at home. If I ever catch him standing, he’s going to start losing privileges because I am tired of listening to my wife whine and my home bathroom smelling like a gas station’s. I told him if we can go a month with a clean toilet, we would discuss allowing him to stand again if he’s learned his lesson.

My wife, who started this by complaining non-stop, thinks I went too far.

AIO by making my son sit down to pee so he stops peeing everywhere but in the toilet bowl?

I might have messed up, but not entirely sure.

I bought a LawnMaster OcuMow VBRM16 and an extra battery for a total of $400USD.

I just found out there’s a OcuMow VBRM16 MAX for $400. Turns out the MAX is supposed to cover more ground.

I cursed myself for a bit but in my research, it seems like the vanilla and MAX use the same hardware. The sole exception is the battery for the MAX is bigger which grants it an extra hour; so the MAX mows for 4 hours compared to the vanilla’s 3 hours.

But if runtime is the only thing that ensures the MAX covers more ground, I feel like I may have failed into success since I could have spent $400 and got a MAX that mows for 4 hours, but instead I spent $400 and got the vanilla + spare battery that could potentially mow for 6 hours. The caveat being I’d have to swap the battery, which isn’t a big deal.

Do I have that wrong? Is there more to the MAX? Or is my setup ultimately better?

Did JDF actually teach at his school or was he just a face for marketing?

Genuinely curious. If he was traveling the country to attend as many cons as he could to connect with as many fans as he could, it seems like it would be easier for fans to just come to him at his school. Unless he wasn’t active in it.

Like, I’m sure he was when he first opened it but as his fame grew, was he still just as involved? Or did he step back behind the scenes, hired a team of instructors and posed for promo photos and maybe occasionally show up for a testing?

Just bought a LawnMaster OcuMow 16

I love this thing already. I named it Gus. I received it yesterday which was also the day I’d planned to mow and it is a game changer. It was SO helpful. I have a decent sized yard so I set it on one half and did the spiral option and I manually mowed the other half.

When I was done and came over to Gus’ side, I was shocked at how much ground this thing had already covered. Easily takes what’s usually a 2.5-3 hour job down to a little over an hour.

I’m very happy with this. It was $300, which is expensive to me, but I understand that’s “dirt cheap” in the realm of robots so I was a little leery, but I have no regrets. This thing is so much fun to watch work and so helpful. I hope Gus lasts for many years to come.

(My son is amused and wonders if Gus can talk to Scuba Steve the pool vacuum.)

I’m a Shodan in Isshin-ryu. My teacher has long since moved away or I’d just reach out and ask him.

I’m not part of any organization or school. I just met my teacher at his house every Saturday at 9:00 and trained for 2-3 hours for 5 years. I had to buy my own belts if I wanted to wear the appropriate color so I ultimately bought my own black belt.

I typically don’t like embroidery. I’m also a Chodan in Tae Kwon Do, and in that art I am part of a school so my black belt was given to me with gold embroidery with my name, rank, school and all that. I’m a little embarrassed wearing it to class because I just don’t like that. I prefer my completely blank and boring Isshin-ryu belt.

Anywho, my wife had her stepdad, who fancies in carpentry, build me belt racks for both arts. For the Isshin-ryu side, I decided I wanted to get an embroidered belt just for the display on my weight room wall.

I was wondering if RED is inappropriate for a Shodan. I want my Isshin-ryu belt to be distinct from the gold embroidery on my Tae Kwon Do belt. I’ve seen a photo of my teacher’s teacher and his embroidery was red, which is where I get my preference from, however, he’s a 6th Dan.

Granted, I get there’s no belt police stopping me from doing it in any color I want, but in that light there’s also nobody stopping me from putting 10 dans on it either, so I’d like to be correct and appropriate. Is red okay for Shodan or is red embroidery more traditionally meant for higher ranks? Does it truly not matter at all?

I grew up on Power Rangers up to Turbo and then gave up on it. I hear Time Force is good and I saw a bit of SPD and liked what I saw there.

I decided to give Super Sentai a try and decided to start in the same place as Power Rangers: with Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. I liked it well enough. Burai became my favorite character just like Tommy.

Then I watched Chojin Sentai Jetman. And wow. I don’t think anything will top Jetman. That was GOOD even for a kid’s show.

I find myself interested in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger. I really like the suits even though they’re simple. And I like the idea of ninjas.

Is it silly though? I saw that Friday in California meme and it’s both terrifying and ridiculous.

I decided I wanted to get a figure of Black Condor, but I kind of want the whole team.

I was pleased to see S.H. Figuarts made a Gai figure but I’m disappointed the only other one is Ryu. I really like S.H. Figuarts. I own a few of their Dragon Ball figures.

I found these other super articulated figures from Shodo for Chojin Sentai Jetman and the whole team is sold as a box set. I want this one but I’m wondering on the quality of Shodo versus S.H. Figuarts. I’ve never heard of Shodo before.

If you’ve got any Shodo figures, what’s your opinion? Are they as nice as S.H. Figuarts or is there a noticeable dip in quality?

If they’re bad then I might just get the S.H. Figuarts Gai and make peace with just that one.

It was suggested to me that I post here in lieu of r/Christian. So this is a cross post.

In my search to find Jesus, I decided I should probably actually read the Bible at some point. Given how limited my time is throughout the day, I bought an audiobook of the New Testament narrated by James Earl Jones.

I still don’t understand much of it, but I found the story of Jesus, which seemed to rerun over and over between the books by the apostles, truly captivating and dare I say, comforting. I found myself shedding a tear or two of Jesus telling the thief he will not pray for him because instead they would walk together in paradise.

I still haven’t experienced that instant rush or sudden awakening I’ve heard about: that moment of sheer clarity that causes one to involuntarily drop to their knees and break down as they feel the relief of being saved. And I still find myself worrying this life is all we get and upon death there is no other side, but I will continue my search for Jesus Christ.
