Faces of the Fallen display put up by USO Camp Beuhring, Kuwait for Memorial Day 2012.

At the time, 6,500 Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen had fallen since 2001 in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tiffany Banks, USO Camp Buehring Center Manager, said: "We had an incredible blackout run with around 1,500 soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors present. We ended the run at the vigil site. The site was a HUGE field filled with our 6,500 luminary lights, static display of tanks and howitzers, a Black Hawk flyover and rememberance ceremony."

Memorial cross made of 105mm artillery shells at Camp Dwyer, Garmsir District, Helmand Province 2009

Memorial cross made of 105mm artillery shells at Camp Dwyer, Garmsir District, Helmand Province 2009

Created by British Armed Forces in honor of Lance Bombardier James Dwyer of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, aged 22. L/Bdr Dwyer died whilst on a patrol in Southern Helmand province when the vehicle he was driving struck an anti-tank mine on December 27, 2006.

The base was originally a FOB, however in May 2009 it was expanded into a Camp by Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 (NMCB 5), it was further expanded by NMCB 3 in November 2011. The base was a major USMC installation and one of the largest camps the Marines used in Southern Helmand.

War graffiti on the walls of an abandoned Iraqi Police station in Tarmiyah, Iraq 2007

1: This was on the wall of an abandoned Iraqi Police station in Tarmiyah, Iraq when we took it over as a Patrol Base after conducting RIP/TOA with 1-8 CAV. No idea the story behind it, but insurgents did drive a truck bomb/SBIED into this station and conducted a complex attack that nearly overran it earlier that spring. The Soldiers of C/4-9 Infantry fought (and died) at PB-North for eight months before moving north IVO Tikrit.

2: Another piece of wall art from Patrol Base-North in Tarmiyah, Iraq circa 2007. This was drawn by either the IZ Police before they abandoned the building, or insurgents when they briefly occupied it unopposed. Tarmiyah, like many small forgotten cities/villages was a very violent place in the AQI 'Baghdad Belt.'

3: Last pic from Patrol Base-North in Tarmiyah, Iraq. This was drawn by a Soldier from C-for-Commanche Company, 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment, who conducted combat operations here from May 2007 to January 2008.

Latrine Poetry at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait 2016 by American Airmen of the 386th AEW

You can paint this bathroom stall
Mask the writing on the wall
Hide the slander once here sketched
cover up the dicks we once etched

but no matter how you strain
all your efforts are in wain
every word will be rewritten
as long as a man sits here sh*tten...

T-wall from ~2008 by Company A, 1st Battalion, 200th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Stingray, New Mexico National Guard

Camp Buehring, Kuwait
Photo from 2017
https://www.warmurals.com/camp-buehring-kuwait-2017

Company A, 1st Battalion, 200th Infantry Regiment demonstrates New Mexico state pride and uses its flag as inspiration for the barrier. The yellow background becomes a sunset sky that highlights carefully chosen silhouettes. The images on the left confirm pride in branch and State, while in the center, the unit’s mission takes primary focus. The Task Force image is aggressive and depicts a stingray that swims not in water, but lava, has demonic red eyes, and flames rising off its back. On the right side of the barrier is a silhouette of an infantryman with weapon raised to the ready. The image is apt because despite the fact that war is often fought at a distance, the infantry Soldier must fight in close proximity. The motto, “Beyond the Standard,” serves as the exclamation mark to the barrier’s message. Always seeking to improve, always seeking to be better is the drive of America’s warfighters.
