Didn’t realize my 2026 Palisade Hybrid had no spare tire until today
I never in a million years thought to ask whether a nearly $60,000 SUV came with a spare tire, but here we are.
I have a 2026 Palisade Calligraphy Hybrid with less than 4,000 miles on it. Today I had an issue on the interstate and pulled onto the shoulder. Traffic was heavy, so I moved further into the grassy area because I didn’t want to risk getting rear ended sitting too close to traffic.
As I got back onto the interstate, I started getting alerts on the dash and realized the front passenger tire was losing air fast. Apparently something in the grass that I couldn’t see sliced the sidewall.
I got off the interstate and started trying to keep enough air in the tire so I wouldn’t destroy the wheel. I barely managed to limp it from one gas station to another and eventually to Discount Tire. By the time I got there, the tire was down to around 10 PSI.
Then came the part that really surprised me. Discount Tire told me they didn’t have the tire in stock and would have to order it. I asked about putting the spare on temporarily and the employee looked at me and said, “I don’t think this vehicle comes with a spare tire.” We checked and sure enough… it doesn’t.
That’s what really got me thinking. If this had happened in the middle of the night, farther from home, or if the tire had lost air any faster, I would have been completely dependent on a tow truck.
And yes, I know there are inflator kits and roadside assistance, but none of that helps with a damaged sidewall.
What frustrates me most is I spent weeks researching this SUV and never once thought to ask if it had a spare tire. I just assumed a three-row family SUV would. My 2021 Palisade had one.
I still love the Palisade overall, but this definitely changed my perspective today.
The dealership told me the hybrid supposedly doesn’t have room underneath for a spare because of the battery pack. Has anyone else run into this yet? Has anyone found a real solution for adding an underbody spare tire setup or some kind of workaround?
