Apt Switching Trad Locks to STRATIS Bluetooth
Our apartment recently got bought out by someone else, and they've started making changes that have annoyed the ever loving hell out of me. First they advertised this Doggy DNA to find out about your dogs genetic making yadda yadda but I'm aware this is a thinly veiled poo dna thing for them to track who in the apartments keeps leaving their dogs poop behind. When no one stopped by for this 'complimentary service' they sent out a new e-mail saying it was mandatory to be eligible for lease renewal. I found this annoying as hell but whatever, I get why they'd do it because it is genuinely an issue at our dog park. Place reeks.
But now they are moving our door locks away from traditional key locks to STRATIS which allows them to unlock our doors whenever (yes they have to give notice but they claim emergencies constantly bc the plumbing has been a major problem here lately) and store our keycode locks in a cloud service.
I don't know a ton about cyber-security but I know that I've consistently heard noise about how often cloud-based servers are hacked and how poorly secure they are. And from what I can tell, there is no way for me to audit when my door has been unlocked OR by who/the source.
It just overall feels deeply unsafe/not at all secure but I'm hoping maybe others have apartments that also use STRATIS and can tell me if it's secure/good/bad honestly anything. Our apartment also told everyone through email that if someone is not home to set up a code when they are doing this, they will set their own code for the door and will have to call the front office to get said code. So anyone working a 9-5 is basically SOL.
We plan to buy a few more cameras bc the maintenance people genuinely knock and ask to come in whenever they want due to 'emergency leaking' (they think we use the toilet wipes despite us saying time and time again that we dont so they resorted to this so they can look around our plumbing to catch us with them. We let them in because we know they're never gonna find that shit bc we DONT use them)
TLDR: The new property owners are really micromanaging the residents with small little things that could be helpful but mostly feel like a breech in privacy.
If anyone has STRATIS I'd love to hear how it is, if it works well, if its safe, etc etc etc
