What are your equipment pairing mishaps?
Maybe I've been lucky but I've never put anything together, that didn't sound great. Just wondering what your experiences have been with mismatch pairing.
Back in the 80s when I started upgrading my high school inherited equipment, I picked up an Adcom GFA 555. I bought a used Phase Linear 2000 Series Two Console Preamplifier, primarily because it looked cool and the price was right. 10 years later, I replaced the Phase Linear with a threshold FET 10, based on reputation alone.
Once my Revox B225 CD player (bought new in 89) died, I ended up getting a Simaudio Moon 260D Neo CD w DAC. I figured I should have better amplification at this point and picked up a Simaudio Moon W5.3 HK RS amplifier (essential 2011 W5.3 SE). Then last year I replaced my ADS L880s with a pair of new Focal Kanta Nº3, I found at price.
