Timing Problems.

Bought a 70 Torino. They have the number one plug in the front of the distributor. Near the right side of the vacuum advance. Somehow, It runs but not the greatest. Hard to get started, but once it’s running it sounds pretty smooth after adjusting the timing. How is this possible? The firing order is correct. But I’ve never seen the number one plug go to the front of these distributors. Ever. If it’s out 180, how is it running at all? Adjusted the timing several times til it’s running kind of smooth, but hardly ever wants to fire up from that position. It has me so confused. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t want to make it worse or tear something up. I need to get it straightened out so I can move on to other issues. (Like charging)

It’s a fresh rebuild, but the previous mechanics weren’t ford guys.

What cams should i use for my build?

putting 351C 2V heads on a 302 low output because im simply too lazy to change the 302 from flat tappet to roller lifters.
i know this little 5 liter just isnt making the power to support the 351C 2V heads by itself, and even with the Windsor high output cam its not doing it fully.
trying to hit 300 somethin horsepower, ideally upwards of like 400tq or as close as we can get on the 302 L.O

budget isnt real, just give me some honest recommendations for this great value Boss 302 build to hit that 300/400 ideal spec i want or at least somethin near that.
