YuGiOh, MtG, or DnD

Hello fellow 505 nerds,

I am an autistic man in my mid-30s, and I have lived here for many years but don't really know anyone other than coworkers and family. I am looking for new hobbies that get me out of the house and meeting people (my other main interests are indie rock/record collecting, Star Wars, fantasy novels, comics, and LEGO). I'm interested in getting into YuGiOh, Magic the Gathering, or Dungeons & Dragons (or all of the above!), but I am overwhelmed and don't know how/where to get started.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

I'm also somewhat anxious about being the weird old guy, even though I know that all of those hobbies have a lot of people in their 30s, so age-appropriate venues are appreciated.

A&P instructor recommendations, please!

Hello, I'm an RN, graduated from CNM back in 2002, am getting ready to return to work after taking time away to be a stay at home mom; for years - even while I was still working - I've longed for the opportunity to take anatomy and physiology again (glutton for punishment? probably. but, I actually reeeally love science to begin with, so it'll be win-win for me...), anyway, I finally have the chance and have decided actually sitting present in classes will work best for me. I definitely remember that the instructor can absolutely make or break presentation of material, for classes like A&P especially, so I wanted to see if anyone can fill me in on who's supposed to be the best, as well as which ones are most difficult to understand/disengaged/etc.

These are the instructors listed for the fall '26 semester: Tappen, Broussard, Niforatos, Freeman, Calabro, and Elenes.

I'm only going back for the two semesters of A&P, so instructor selection really matters to me big time - thanks so much for any feedback you can provide!

Free event : 7pm July 9! Nerd Nite ABQ #21: Sex, Satan, and Kittens!

Nerds of Albuquerque -

Nat here from Nerd Nite Albuquerque, a FREE monthly (ish) event where we bring in people passionate about things, and they tell you about them.

Join us on July 9 as we present perhaps the greatest lineup in Nerd Nite history: sex, Satan, and kittens!

We've got something for everyone this time, so come beat the heat with us at Green Jeans!

Nerd Nite #21 will be happening on Thursday, July 9th at 7 pm at Green Jeans Food Hall.

See more and RSVP here at our facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2069059060310267

Our talks:
*****
**Title**: John Mellencamp And Your Pelvic Floor Walk Into A Bar...When Sex Hurts, And It's NOT So Good.
**Blurb**: Painful sex: common, normalized, and wildly misunderstood. This talk explores the role of pelvic floor tension, the disconnect between arousal and pain, and the cultural narratives that keep people stuck. Lindsay unpacks what's actually going on in the body, why "just push through it" is terrible advice, and how we got here in the first place. Come for the beer, stay for the knowledge nuggets and mild outrage.
**Bio**: Lindsay Thorsen is a Doctor of Physical Therapy specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy-think physical therapy for your private parts-and a sex educator on a mission to teach what your health class definitely skipped. After realizing most of her patients didn't understand how their bodies work, she created Sex and Sensibility, where science and pleasure come together (you're welcome lol). She also hosts Albuquerque's first sex trivia night-and is back for her third Nerd Nite, so apparently she's hard to get rid of-because nothing says "community education" like learning about orgasms over a drink, amirite? Lindsay is known for blending anatomy, neuroscience, and humor to make sex education approachable, empowering, and actually fun.

*****
**Title**: Satanic Panic! At the Disco
**Blurb**: Satan isn't in the Bible. At least, not the Satan you're probably thinking of. So, where did the red-horned, shape-shifting, Ruler of Hell and its armies image of The Devil come from?
Join me on a Pilgrimage-a-la-Dante through the weird origins of this notorious character who has haunted and influenced western politics and culture for centuries.
**Bio**: Mary Reynolds is a ninth generation Tennesseean, a rock-climber, and an enjoyer of weird medieval art. She generally disagrees that the heat being "a dry heat" makes any difference at all and really wants to show you a picture of her Australian Shepherd. She got her bachelors in Political Science in 2017 from the University of Tennessee and then a graduate degree in Theology in 2021. After spending her late twenties as a Presbyterian (PCUSA) pastor in snowy Montana, she currently works as the Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator for Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains, Refugee and Asylee Services.

*****
**Title**: Fostering Kittens!
**Blurb**: Every year I take kittens and moms and babies from the Albuquerque animal welfare shelter and foster them at my home and then facilitate finding their adoption. It is heartbreaking and rewarding and a lot of fun. Everything from bottle babies to medical cases to just one but need to get a little bit fatter and a little bit more friendly.
**Bio**: Jessi Adkins is a teacher, and she cares for tiny humans all day. She also likes to care for tiny kittens. She has been volunteering for the city of Albuquerque for 15 years doing this and have cat care and cat experience for over 39 and 3/4 years.

Comes join us for a drink, learn something new, and meet fellow nerds! Tell your friends, and help us spread the word about Nerd Nite Albuquerque! And, as always, if you're interested in giving a talk of your own, hit us up at this form:

And remember: Nerd Nite happens because of nerds like you.

Any good repair shops for a gaming laptop?

Hello, I unfortunately spilled green tea like catastrophically all over my gaming laptop, and even though I powered it down quickly and dried it off as best as I could, it won't boot up anymore :(

No clue if it can be salvaged or not but I'd like to get it looked at by an expert at least, so if anyone knows of any reputable shops in town I would be grateful, thank you.

Books & Brews

It's that time again! Bookclub time!

Books and Brews is meeting this Sunday, June 28th, at 2pm at O'Neills to celebrate our 3rd anniversary!

We will be in the covered patio area, if not just look for the group with the books.

No assigned reading, we all read what we want when we want. We meet once a month to discuss books, authors, genres, film adaptations, life, whatever. We also have a book exchange, not required to participate and not required to bring a book to take a book.

This month to celebrate we will be playing Book Club Jeopardy!
