F650GS comfort?

OK. Old guy, questionable back, brain thinks I'm younger than I am...

I'm considering an F650GS (or, reluctantly, a 1200GS). Here's the thing. I'm short. I'm picky. I started with an XT250 but needed more highway oomph. I went to a CB500X. LOVE the bike, but the seat... I struggle beyond 1/2hr with the seat. I loved the 500 (still have it for short rides) but I needed something easier on my butt. I got a 1300Vstar. I got the lower seat height (I'm short AF), comfort for riding and saddle bags. Perfect, right? Not really. It's heavy and while I can ride it and be comfortable, it's just not as fun as the CB. And, one day I'd like to do the Dempster highway, so... not suitable. I have sat on a 1200RT and found it quite comfortable (and surprisingly low). So... that led me to looking at the GS models for the Dempster (and the dirt roads around here). All the reading I've done has said the 1200 is far more comfortable than the 650. I haven't spent time on the seat of any of the GS models, but am I going to be disappointed when I sit in them for an hour or two? What are the solutions? I know there are some lowered bikes out there, what do you give up? I'm running about 28" inseam, but I've been comfortable on bikes up to the NC750X seat height. Thoughts? Advice?

How bad of an idea is it to buy an ‘03 F650GS as a first bike?

1700 miles, ABS, new tires from current (2nd) owner, no maintenance records
