What's your favourite quote from Alley Cats? Mine is this classic from Gus 😂😂

u/66f6 — 6 days ago

Hilarious and creative

I don’t get why so many are hating on the show. I found it to be incredibly funny and both my husband and I laughed throughout. It’s creative, off-color but not in a lazy way, and touching. Plus cats are genuinely hilarious and I enjoyed someone bringing that to life in a dark, non-Animal-Planet kind of way.

Rant

Honestly, I never expected to resonate with some cats from the UK. Talking cats isn't a new thing, but the fact that they are English does it for me. They really captured the UK experience for me. I am wondering how they managed to show literal Tesco.

Did I spot Karl Pilkington in episode 3?

As Puke introduces his kids to the gang, around 5:48 Gus asks "you seem fairly normal, have you got mental problems, or?" and one of them answers "no, fairly normal".

It sounds very much like Karl. But from only 3 words, it's not clear.

So what is your favorite joke in Alley Cats?

Alley Cats seems to have a lot of people saying it's hilarious, but whenever you ask, "What's the funniest joke or scene?" they suddenly have nothing to say.

That's what I find strange compared with Ricky Gervais' older work. With The Office or Extras, you can immediately name several scenes, lines, or moments that genuinely crack you up.

I've noticed that most people who love Alley Cats don't seem particularly keen to actually name their favorite joke. If it's really that funny, shouldn't there be at least one moment you can point to?

Alley cats

Anyone else realize that when Gus prayed and said you can keep or make his life even worse that after the kitten got better his mom passed the same episode. Took me a min to realize but thought it was interesting or cool.

Fascinatingly bad

The most entertaining thing about Gervais these days is watching just how bad his material can get! Surely never before have we seen such a dramatic plummet in standards as this, it’s incredible. So many gammon-headed followers of his are desperate for Alley Cats to “offend” the haters with its supposed controversies and crassness… it’s JUST SHIT, guys. It’s not offensive, it’s terrible, bland, lazy, boring, cringeworthy shite.

The Rest is Cunt

I don’t mind Diane Morgan and Tom Basden in this. It’s like they’re voice acting while everyone else is on a bad podcast shouting cunt over each other.

I'm blaming Jonathan Ross for giving him a cat that time

Wossy gave him a cat when the old one died. Ricky then posted about that cat endlessly on Twitter, giving him the idea that people really love his inane cat content. And ultimately, that led to him creating this demicky shite. So it's not his volt; it's Jonathan's.

Alley Cats review

So first if all, I really like how it's about cats. They are all so cute and fluffy and I love how they're are different kinds of them like ginger, fat, kitten, scruffy etc. in the show. Then I love how the cats can speak and when they speak they are always swearing it's so cute because I think if cats could talk they would swear a lot that is my predictiom. It's so funny to me how they all hate humans because that's is how cats are in real life and also how they have philipsophical conversatioms like you would never expect a cat to have a conversatiom like that it is so silly and so funny. Then there is the emotional bits I never thought I would cry about cartoon cats but it really made me sad and also happy at the same time in some parts and that made me cry but in a good way. I like the names of the cats too especially gus it is such a silly and funny name. Overall I love it it's my fav thing I've ever watched probably it's just fab and brill all at the same time.

I Genuinely Wanted to Like This....

.....but I found it unnecessarily boorish and lazy. I only made it through 3/4 of the first episode before bailing, I didn't laugh once and found the whole thing humourless. Gervais is on Twitter at the moment accusing people who didn't like the show of hating it because they were offended. Personally, the only offensive thing about Alley Cats was precisely how unfunny it was.

Gervais is now a combination of Andy Millman from Extras and Finchy from The Office; a one trick pony who feels the only way he can get laughs these days is by punching down.

EDITED: To Finchy from Frenchy.

How unrealistic!

Cats don't even speak English wtf!

Does Mr Gervais know this or does he suffer from a mental health illness which makes him think his cat talks to him?

And why has the house they stayed in been left like that? Surely the local council would have done something so they can house illegal immigrants?

The only offensive thing about this show is that no cat coughs up a hair ball. Stupid.

Awful show. 1/10. Forgettable. Can't wait for season 2.

My opinion about Alley Cats

It's a little different than I expected

Feels like I'm reading a comic book while watching it

But I love the plot with the kitten and the other ones are acting like the kitten's uncles and Aunt, Gus being the dad and the serious quotes and life lessons are great

Alley Cats

A wonderful life lesson output by Gervais. The life lesson's actual identity within the whole machine of the output is the wonder itself. Mortality. Consumption. Daytime and nighttime. These are the life lessons of the show.

Daytime itself is the actual wonder of the show, of the context that it's a wonder of being a life lesson application. Same goes for nighttime, and for mortality and the consumer society.
