Charging rates for A290 (UK)

Need someone with a little bit of insight to answer (or correct me) on this.

The A290 has DC and AC inverters. The DC (fast charge) is rated up to 100kw. The AC up to 11kw - so that's fine for my 7.4kw home charger.

My question is - if I use my own cable ( as supplied with the vehicle) and plug this into a public 'slow' charger (ie not CSS or tethered cable) and that charger is rated at say 22kw is the max it will charge the car 11kw due to my cable capacity?

Should I only be using tethered chargers to get a decent rate of charge on the go? Or get a 22kw cable for those in between chargers ie DC untethered chargers that don't have CSS?

The choice used to be unleaded, super unleaded or diesel... Much simpler..

Parking brake completely stuck 😢

Got the windows tinted the other day, more on that later.

When the guys were done they couldn't get the car to release the parking brake, they asked me to try to move the car.

Got in the car and was immediately greeted by multiple malfunctions on the dash, parking brake malfunction being the one effectively bricking the car.

Tried the instructions in the manual for manually releasing the parking brake.

Well, they call in manually but it's still operated by the electric motors on the rear brake calipers.

These seem to be the issue as they are not responding to input from the switch :(

Called my dealer and the mechanics walked me through the same procedures as I tried before, but no effect.

The dealer told me to contact the route service.

Which showed up 45 minutes later, pretty quick luckily because the car was still stuck in the workshop and the customers after me had to be sent home.

Shop owner took it pretty well and was surprisingly calm about the situation.

Once the tow truck showed up it still took some time to get it on the truck because the car was inside and the acces to the shop was only a narrow alleyway.

Towed the car to the nearest alpine store, fortunately this was my own dealer which did the first service only a day before. Pretty crazy it broke down only a day later.

Dealer was hoping a full reset would fix the issue, but haven't heard from them since.

Called them yesterday afternoon but they didn't pick up the phone.🤷🏼‍♂️

Received a (new?) software update 4.2.0 today

Don't know if rolled out later in my region (Austria), maybe the update is already available for some time now in other regions. But it's the first and only update for my A290 since October 2025.

This update includes the following improvements:
- Optimized compatibility with the latest charging stations
- Smoother gear shifts with improved responsiveness when shifting between positions (R, N, D/B)

Reliability ??

I’m thinking of getting an alpine 290

Live in Newcastle

Nearest garage is

Edinburgh : Leeds

Should I worry if they go faulty

As it’s over 100 mile for warranty faults to be repaired as the guy at the alpine dealer said they can’t be fixed at Renault under warranty

Cheers

Radio not playing

Over the last couple of days I've started having radio issues. Selecting the Radio as the source I get a blank black screen and no stations to select, and as a result no sound.

I've tried changing Source and then coming back, mute and invite the sound. Turning it up extra loud and still nothing.

The other media apps like News play ok. Spotify through android auto is ok via my phone.

No OTA system updates since March.

No it's not linked to me trying to connect to my home network.

There have been some reports on other forums but nothing conclusive.

Anyone know what the App is that Alpine use for the radio so I can refresh it? Or indeed how to remove it...

Any ideas???

Air Con Issues

Alpine A290 GTS - I notice that I occasionally have to turn AC on off and on to make it kick - but sometimes even this doesn’t work. Anyone else having issues with the AC?
