postpartum fissures?

omg I can’t believe i’m posting this but I need some advice! I believe in battling anal fissures currently at 4 weeks PP. I was feeling fine and had no symptoms until about 2 weeks ago. I noticed some sharp pain with bowel movements and a little blood when wiping. It wasnt TOO bad until yesterday when trying to pass a stool. I’m not kidding when I say the pain is worth than child birth was for me. Sharp razer like pain and some bleeding as well today but i’m having a hard time even passing the stool. I called the midwife and they just recommend taking my stool softeners but does anyone have any advice on what to do for the pain to even be able to pass a bowel movement. any creams that I can use while breastfeeding. I already plan on upping my intake of fiber and drinking more water along with trying baths. i’m just miserable! 😩

I think this wound has the ability to break relationships, friends, and family. Forever

That's all I'll say without getting to dark. And personally if I caused someone a fissure or something similar. I'd just run away. I think I know how bad this gets for everyone

Am i healing or is the miralax doing the job its meant to do and masking the pain?

Hi folks, thank you for all the wonderful advice on this sub. Since i hopped on daily miralax, my BMs have been very soft and passing them has been like transient 2/10 pain compared to 10/10 before. However, it has been more sore with some significant burning these past two days. I am scared that the soft BM is just masking an unhealing fissure or god forbid, a worsening one. Would love to hear more about the stages folks went through over time to see if im following a certain trajectory. Thanks!

Question about blood on stool

I know most times there's blood on the side of the stool like a streak but is it possible to have blood on the end of the stool? Specifically the end that is last coming out of the anus not the front part

Discouraged & Wanting Encouragment

I have had a fissure for 3.5 week, it slowly started to get better with diltiazem, sitz baths, MiraLAX and colace along with better diet choices. I was pain free completely for a week and blood free for ten days. However, I messed up and four days ago I made the mistake of missing a dose of MiraLAX and colace and ate a nut bar along with not much else during the day. The next day I went to the bathroom with moderate amount of blood, not a lot of pain though. Then I went two more times that day and it HURT so badly.. the next day was a little better pain wise and yesterday was no pain BUT a moderate amount of blood (my bleeding had subsided from the initial). Today there wasn’t pain until the very end of the BM accompanied by 4/10 pain for two minutes after.. unfortunately there was some more blood, not as much as yesterday. However now as I’m sitting in in pain! It’s not horrible, but it’s triggering my mental.

I’m a first time mom and am feeling so discouraged. Just telling myself it is irritated but I’m missing out on my kiddos life because of this horrible thing.

So sick. Not only I have a fissure and hemorrhoid, now I’ve started with incomplete evacuation issue

I try to relax/breathe/expand the belly to open the sphincter but the pain is incommensurable.. 9/10
I swear the more I relax the more it hurts

And I’ve had 5 bowel movements yesterday, today 3. It’s torture every time

I have this crazy urge to poop and feel like my anus is going to explode, but it seems I don’t expel everything cause I’ll have another BM around 1 or 2hs later

Am I healing?

Back in June I had what was my first fissure. I don't think I drank enough water the previous day bc the pain was like passing glass. It was horrendous... I didn't even know this could happen! I've always had a good diet and hydration.. I'm a vegetarian so all we eat is legumes, beans, nuts, oats, vegetables and a ton of fruit. I drink more than 65 oz a day of water. I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I don't drink anything but water. I don't take stool softeners because I don't need to as my diet and hydration keeps my stool soft (I believe I just didn't drink enough water that day)..I also take physllium husk powder in the morning with my vitamins. I also have 2-3 BM every morning. My husband and I are pretty regular when it comes to that.

I was on nitroglycerin for about 6+ weeks. He also gave me hydrocortisone suppositoties that I used for about a week. The pain gradually got better to where it was just burning right at the beginning of my BM as opposed to being in pain all day in the beginning. Two weeks ago I went back to my GI and he said I was 90% healed. I was not in any pain during BM and no bleeding. Every now and then I feel a bit of irritation around my skin tag (from a previous hemmoroid). I also have been lubing the area up before my morning BMs and it seems to help.. my GI also said I could use butt paste if it gets irritated so I have also been using my daughters cream. It's been 2 weeks and just minor spots of blood when it's irritated but no pain. Am I healing?

How do I know when I'm healed?

Went to the doctor for chronic fissures (going on for ~6 months) a couple weeks ago, and she told me to take MiraLAX. I have and it's been helping a lot. No more pain + blood, but I forgot to ask how long to stay on MiraLAX for... I feel like if I get off of it the fissures will just come right back as soon as I pass a hard stool. Any insight or experience with this would be greatly appreciated!!

Cured!

Hi everyone, wanted to help people who are suffering from acute/chronic anal fissures.
I literally had pain everyday for 4 months but no blood, doc advised me to eat more fibre and drink more water and lactihep if you skip BM for a day as almost every doc says.
I have completely changed my diet but it did not improve as much as i thought it would and sometimes when i eat meat , the next day would be so painful that it completely reversed by whole healing journey which i was trying so hard.
And then my mom suggested which i denied but she forced me to take NIRANJAN PHAL every morning , and now it completely healed!
Just wanted to say try EVERYTHING , it might help you to cure completely , for me NIRANJANPHAL helped me it is my life saviour. I now sometimes eat meat and it is completely fine but i am still continuing my strict diet.

Is this normal?

I have had an issue with what I assumed was a minor fissure for like a week or two in the summer the last couple of years. This summer…I have had what the doctor thinks is a fissure (she couldn’t see it but I definitely felt it) for almost a month and a half. She prescribed me nitroglycerin if self care didn’t help.

Now that it’s been about 6 weeks of losing hope ( I had a couple days where things seemed to clear up but then it went back to bleeding) I’m going to try the nitroglycerin. Is it normal for fissures to last this long? I’m not bleeding as much as when it first started but it just wont seem to let up and I’ve tried the sitz baths and I’ve stopped squatting and leg press when I work out. I have a high fiber diet and I’m healthy. I drink plenty of water. I’m just at a loss now, I know I’ll probably have a colonoscopy in a month or so which of course I’m nervous maybe it’s more serious.

I guess my questions are just, is this length of time normal? Will the nitroglycerin actually help? I’m so upset

TIA

Missed a couple of doses on a 6 week nitroglycerin treatment, does this ruin the whole treatment ?

Like the title says, there were a couple of mornings when I skipped applying the medication because I wasn't able to go to the toilet. I didn't want to apply it and then have to go to the toilet shortly afterwards, so I simply skipped the morning dose and waited until the evening dose instead.

This happened a maximum of four mornings during the entire six-week treatment period. During the second week, I also skipped two full days because I became sick and had a fever. I didn't want to apply the medication while I was feeling really unwell.

I asked ChatGPT whether missing a few doses like this would make a difference, and, to my surprise, it said that it could be the reason my anal fissures haven't healed. Is that really true? We're talking about only a handful of missed doses over six weeks. I would hate to think that I ruined the entire treatment by missing just a few doses, especially since I was already struggling with health anxiety and had to push myself to use the medication despite experiencing a high pulse and being scared of the side effects.

My doctor said if this six week cure didn't work, we will look into surgery. I really don't want to do surgery, cause I am scared of permanent complications. Also if me skipping a few doses is the reason the fissures didn't heal then I really don't want to jump into surgery.

Any knowledge about this will be greatly appreciated 👍

Question

I’ve been dealing with a fissure on and off for 3 years. It got really bad, blood wise, and I had a colonoscopy (3 years ago). It was clear except for the fissure. I just had a baby the beginning of June this year, and a couple weeks later (lack of water probably 🤦) I had a really hard stool and started having extreme pain again. This has lasted on and off for the past 4 weeks. I went to a new GI yesterday and she prescribed me with Nifedipine, told me to take MiraLAX twice a day and gave me the option of having another colonoscopy. Should I get another colonoscopy? She did a DRE, and didn’t see or feel anything but there was a very painful spot (where I’ve been having the pain)

LIS surgery yesterday — is this normal?

This is exactly what I had laser sphincterotomy + fissurectomy + laser hemorrhoidectomy

Hey everyone, I had LIS day before yesterday for an anal fissure had sphinctertomy and haemorhoidectomy. Once the anesthesia wore off, I had my first bowel movement that night and experienced pain and some bleeding. My doctor gave me painkillers and other medication, and thankfully I haven’t seen any blood since.
Poop has been like paste on the first day and very little and on the second day that is today also not much yet.
However, I still have pain/discomfort, a constant feeling like I need to poop, and my anus feels open/very relaxed, like it isn’t fully closing.
For those who’ve had LIS:
Is this normal on day 1–2?
How long did the pain, urgency, and “open” feeling last?
When did bowel movements become easier?
Any tips for a smooth/quick recovery?
Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Pain relief

Not sure if this could help anyone else for some pain relief but after a bowel movement I immediately take a sitz bath for 10-15 min then lay in my bed butt naked on my belly and within another 10ish minutes my pain subsides. It doesn’t help if I’m laying on my side but when I’m on my belly, booty up, I get so much relief

Sphincterotomy and hemorrhoidectomy

26(F) gave birth late May and pushed for 4 hours, which caused external hemorrhoids and an anal fissure. Surgeon recommended a sphincterotomy and hemorrhoidectomy all at once. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice to share. Im a bit nervous for the healing stage as Im still breastfeeding and worried about how it’ll affect that journey. If anyone is interested I’ll update my healing journey to help others as well :)

Hemorrhoids

Hi, I’m coming to you with a slightly embarrassing question. Does anyone who regularly works out at the gym have problems with hemorrhoids?

I’m under 40 and I’ve been training regularly since I was 16. I’ve already had several hemorrhoid removal procedures using rubber band ligation (a tight band is placed around the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply so it eventually dies). Unfortunately, after turning 30, I also developed an anal fissure, which I had surgically treated.

For quite a long time now, I’ve had the feeling that the hemorrhoids keep coming back, but without any painful symptoms. It’s more of a constant feeling of swelling or fullness. No blood, no pain, no constipation — just swelling.

My proctologist, who is an older doctor, insists that I should give up going to the gym, but working out is a huge part of my life. I don’t do barbell squats or deadlifts, I try to control my breathing, and I simply can’t give up bench pressing — it’s my favorite exercise.

I have no problems with constipation, I drink plenty of water, and generally take good care of my diet.

Does anyone have similar problems with recurring hemorrhoids? If so, how do you manage them while continuing to train?

Have an appointment with a CRS for a general appointment but it’s an hour drive each way.

I can’t sit down for that long. I’d have to take an uber and lie down in the back on my side. And I don’t know how I’ll do with the bumpiness of the road, starts and stops etc. I have just started to get a little relief from my meds and 24/7 heating pad.

Am I crazy to postpone this appointment? I’ve been trying to see another CRS that is closer but it’s taking a while with my insurance

What kinda life is this.

How does anyone live a normal life like this? I have a concert in a week, I work full time and I’m just silently in pain… what kind of life is this.
