Yes, Jammu and Kashmir is one state. There may be nothing in common among the three regions of the state but then Unity in Diversity is the strongest pillar for the existence of the most robust of civilizations.

You may not notice that the coldest part of winter in the entire region is celebrated with equal zeal through out the state. In Jammu it is Lohri, Chilli Kallan in Kashmir and Mamani in Ladakh.

Centuries of interaction have led to cultural interchanges. The Dogra rulers continued with Urdu as their court language. Urdu played an important role in the cultural cohesion of the state.

The state today is witnessing a grave situation with many people raising their voice for the division of the state - on instigations from outsiders. However, there are saner voices who would never like to see this beautiful state divided into pieces. These voices may be in the minority but they are there.

Amending the cause of the problem is the way out, not ending it. Like a warden of ours would say when students protested that the mess was not providing quality food so it should be shut. The warden said, Menu Ko amend karo, end mat karo.

Ladakh has been playing a cemmenting role in keeping the state from getting divided. And we are proud of this privilage! We, the moonlanders, are proud to be a part of a state where people are more sweet than sugar (Khandd mithey log Dogrey) and the land is like that of the Paradise (Firdaus baro-e-zameen).

You may have a thousand reasons for dividing us, we need just one to stick together and that one reason - despite all the differences, despite all the instigations from outsiders - is:

We WANT to be Together!
