Recommendations for a custom metal fabricator / staircase contractor (UWS)?
We are currently doing a major apartment renovation on the UWS and I’m looking for recommendations for a custom metal fabricator or specialized railing contractor.
We have an existing stainless steel staircase with a wire mesh infill, and we want to swap the mesh out for a 10-cable horizontal system.
The specifics of the job:
* **It must be done in-place:** The staircase cannot be dismantled, so all the work (drilling, tapping, fitting) has to happen on-site. (The apartment is currently a construction zone, so noise and dust are not an issue). * **The approach:** A previous contractor scoped this out before COVID but retired before doing the work. His plan was to keep the existing welded tabs that hold the mesh, use an adapter on them, and run the new cables directly from those tabs. I'm looking for someone who can execute this or suggest a similarly clean in-place alternative.
Does anyone have a go-to architectural metal shop, fabricator, or specialized contractor who takes on custom residential modifications like this in Manhattan?
I have a full set of photos, hardware close-ups, and the retired contractor's mockups ready to share with anyone who might be a good fit. Appreciate any leads!
