Beginner artist looking for feedbacks

Hello everyone, I’ve been learning to draw and paint for six months. It’s something that really makes me feel good, and I’m very passionate about it. I started an Instagram account (link on my profile) to share my progress, but I haven’t been getting any feedback and I feel lonely... Since I don’t really have any family or friends to share this with, I’m writing this little note in the hope of getting some feedback. I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I don't know what the heck to draw.

I am trying to get back into it. All I did was draw 24/7 growing up (constantly in trouble at school because of it). I stopped sometime in college and never have again since (now 34).

When I used to draw, it was animated fandom art for whatever my hyperfixation was at the time.

I am not into fandoms anymore. I love Sherlock, but I am tired of hyperrealism and don't like "cartoonizing" live-action characters. I am not into landscapes or 'abstract' types of art. I like to portray emotional scenes but have no idea where to start and no style. I open a canvas and just stare at it, eventually abandoning it and entering another no-draw phase for months/years. People tell me to "just start drawing and see where it takes you" but I can't do that successfully. My brain refuses to put pen to paper if I have zero ideas/direction.

Any ideas or even just solidarity welcomed!

How do you stop attaching your worth to your work?

Hello! I discovered this sub recently

I’ve wanted to ask this for a while but I didn’t know which sub to post this too and I think this might be the best one for the question.

Over the years I think I’ve started to attach my own self worth/gratification to my work. For example, I’ll work on something such as the drawing attached to this post. It’s of the Tsaritsa from Genshin who is a new character that got revealed recently.

I’d then post it and see how much engagement it gets and if the next drawing I post doesn’t get around the same I start to wonder if my skills have declined.

I have a habit of thinking “I need to make this look good so people like it” not so much so as “I need to make this look good so I like it”

I try to draw in a semi realistic style (this is a WIP so it’s a lot less rendered than usual) so if I feel like it’s not realistic enough I start to panic a bit.

I don’t know why but along the way I’ve even developed this procrastination for drawing too like I’ll think “Oh I want to work on the WIP tonight” and then think about how it could go terribly and look awful and then immediately procrastinate.

Heck even for this WIP it looked so different from what I had in mind after working on it for 8 hours, I was pretty defeated the rest of the day.

I don’t think it’s wanting my work to look perfect since my usual work is on the messier side anyways but more so of “oh if this doesn’t turn out well or do well then that says something about me as a person” in a way.

It’s very frustrating and it’s probably one of the main reasons I never really finish anything. Maybe it’s also because I wanted to make this my career someday as I find my future one not so sustaining, and so I see it as oh if this work doesn’t come out well it’s over or something lol. For this year I had about 1 finished work so far and a huge stack of wips that should be done but were never touched again.

I just wish I could detach it from myself. I’m not very skilled at anything in life so I think that makes me put too much pressure on this

I lowkey wonder how I used to draw so carefree when I was younger. I like my work more now but it feels less fun and more stressful like I’m studying for something!!

I’m a bit confused about VGen… how long does it usually take and what’s the best method of doing it?

I’ve been trying to do art comms 4 a while and heard VGen was a good way to do it, so I made a acc and am now looking for a code… only thing is I keep seeing posts about people saying it took them months which is kind of scary to me (as someone who isn’t too consistent T ^ T )
I’m not sure what’s the easiest way to get a code, so I’m trying to post here for a bit of advice on that :)
+I am looking for an art buddy if any1 wants to be one :)

The drawing I asked Tim's colour for!

This was done with arrtx acrylic marker.

Imagine them looking at Cass doing something cute and looking at them for approval because she's still learning to be a normal teen or something.

I was thinking like 20€ cuz it takes me about 4 hours to make but im kinda scared to ask this much since I don't have an active community 😅

Any anime fans here , these are my favourite character

In the past I have spent my free time painting scenes and characters from some of my favorite anime.
From Naruto to Studio Ghibli and Howl’s Moving Castle.
Thinking of picking up paintings in free time !

Which one is your favorite, and what anime should I paint next?

Are my prices too high?

I feel like my prices are too high for my skill level, I was told by other people to up my prices so I did but now I feel they are too high. Originally I made my full body $8 so you can imagine the prices for the other options. But now I feel like it’s too high since I don’t think my skill is high enough for $10+ commissions.
