When on final semester grades?

Anyone get any final semester grades on their transcript on CUNY First? What’s the easiest way to know when a grade has been posted?

I am SWEATING over one pre-req because I did well all semester but didn’t do well on the final, so curious what it’ll land at.

Parking BMCC

Do any commuter students from the Queens/Long Island area know what parking is like for BMCC students? I’ll be taking a night class in the Fall on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it runs until 11pm. I don’t really want to take the train back home to Queens at that time.

Some updated info for RN applicants

1.Take the five prerequisite courses: ENG 101/100.5, PSY 100, MAT 104/104.5, CHE 121, BIO 425.

*Students CAN have prerequisite courses in-progress to apply for the May HESI, but not for the December HESI.

  1. Students interested in the evening and weekend program are no longer required to take BIO 426 and BIO 420 before applying.

  2. Students can repeat any of the five prerequisite courses one time for a second grade. The higher grade will be considered for admission.

  3. Submit the new nursing program application by the deadline.

* For fall admission, the HESI is given in early May. We recommend submitting the application well before May 1st.

* For spring admission, the HESI is usually given in early December. We recommend submitting the application well before November 15th.

  1. Take the HESI A2 exam.

Wait for an admissions decision from the Nursing Department.

  1. There are 120 spots for admission: 30 for day, 30 for afternoon, 30 for Tue/Thurs night/weekend, and 30 for Mon/ Wed night/weekend.

HESI thoughts from this week

I was in one of the HESI exams earlier this week for RN. We took it along with LPN candidates at the same time, but of course had different tests. Good luck to everyone!

Results Breakdown:
Reading Comprehension: 98%
A&P: 100%
Math: 96%

Cumulative HESI Score: ~98.5%
Critical Thinking: 950/1000
Pre-Req GPA: 3.875

(Still sweating about getting in though TBH)

Some tips that I didn't know before I walked in, and some tips on the sections:

• Arrive 10 minutes early to get set up. We had people rolling in 5-10 minutes after the scheduled start time. We started 20 minutes late due to them having login issues and the proctors needing to help a few people with computer issues.
Know your Elsevier login name and password - come with it written down somewhere. A lot of folks didn't know they needed that (including me). They have a list of usernames if you forgot yours but logging in and resetting it is a pain. Just know it/bring it.
Snacks/drinks: Allowed, but keep it low key and not noisy (i.e. no bags of chips). Coming with a clear bottle or thermos of water is the way to go. Eat something good beforehand. Hydrate!
Phones: You can't have it even near you during the exam. Bags/phones/jackets go in the back of the classroom.
Calculators: You have to use the one on the screen. I wish it didn't close after every question!

Timing:
I was in there for two hours. Feel like most people took a little longer. You get ~4 hours.

Math
• Know your ratios and proportions, there were a ton on there. Way more than I expected.
• Know your ounces, gallons and liters and how to convert between them.
• Check your answers. Do the math and then check it again, and read the question carefully.
• Rounding: if you're moving quickly, don't forget to look at all your options and round up/down correctly.

Critical Thinking
So many random patient scenarios. I'm shocked I did okay because there were a few questions that felt like they had 2-3 equally correct answers. Learn what they're looking for in CT (prioritizing patient safety over everything, autonomy, patient privacy, asking leading questions, asking patients about their feelings). There's one about potential drug stealing by another RN, and the answer is always "report right away." Any issues/even a hint of something weird about an Rx being off, you go back and check the prescription. There were a LOT of questions about dealing with elderly people with issues, so have ChatGPT send you some critical thinking scenarios on that (memory issues/disorientation especially).

A&P
The exact Quizlet that has been going around. Word for word it's the same. It's truly on Elsevier at this point to change the questions on this exam when they've been obviously distributed so widely.

PCI score

Hi guys,

I hear that everyone is doing very well on the HESI exam. I'm freaking out because it’s going to be very competitive. I scored 96 and my CT is 970/1000, but I see so many people are getting 97-98 on the exam. I'm not even sure if I’ll get in. I'm so stressed out, if everyone’s prerequisite classes are A’s, then it’s almost impossible to get in, even with this score. Also I'm took the exam very in the beginning and I feel like that's not fair

question about prereqs retakes

Hey. So, I’m a student interested in the BMCC Nursing program. I reached out to

ypadmore@bmcc.cuny.edu

and asked her two questions. She didn’t answer the first question. Not sure if it’s an obvious answer or I just wrote it confusingly lol. But, I just wanted to make sure so I can know whether I should complete prereqs before applying to BMCC or it’s ok to complete when there and then apply for ePermit for those courses.
If anyone knows the answer that would be great.

I basically am figuring out a good way to complete prereqs while also not wasting time to get into the program. Because I heard you cannot apply for the program first semester at BMCC. So if i’m done with prereqs before first semester at BMCC i would waste a semester. But Im also worried I won’t be able to retake classes once Im done with my first semester at BMCC…?

Question:
Can I retake classes (up to two times) for each prerequisite whenever I would like when admitted into BMCC? (Any time up until I have used those two chances and before applying to the program).  Or can the retakes only be done the first semester when I am at BMCC? After that, prereqs can only be taken once? (and no retakes)

Be Proud

I absolutely understand the anxiety but I hope you all are proud of yourself period. Doing your absolute best is worth so much more than being chosen. Being chosen is about the other person or in this case an institution. Studying hard and walking in there and passing getting a score that you know tub worked hard is something that can’t be taken away. I read these post and I absolutely understand the anxiety, but I am so proud of myself that proud of my score of 94.8 HESI and 4.0 GPA. I want to be chosen but heys I’ve down is absolutely fantastic. ❤️❤️

bio 420 + first semester nursing program

Hi guys,

I have a question. Is it a good idea to take Bio420 in the first semester of the nursing program? Or if I start in the fall for the nursing program, can I take Bio 420 in the spring or summer?

Writing intensive course

Hi all,

I’m starting my prerequisites this summer for nursing. Nursing dept let me know that all students need to take a writing intensive course before graduating. I figured I’d get it out the way beforehand or maybe I’ve already done it so I don’t have to worry about it while in the program.
I already have a bachelors in marketing, so I’m hooping maybe something I’ve already taken previously will count but not sure. Does anyone have any insight on this? A list of classes that would meet this requirement? Many thanks!!

This is how they calculate your rank. (PCI)

take your (gpa x 12.5)+ (0.5 Hesi)

So 3.78 GPA and a 94 Hesi is 47.25+47= 94.25

If you applied days and they have 70 spots, then the top 70 PCI scores get taken. CT is only used if, for example, the 70th spot has two people tied at 90. Generally, every year, the lowest PCI is around 91-92. It varies, but fall is more competitive than spring. Days are more competitive than nights. If you have a 3.8+92+ Hesi or PCI of 94+, I wouldn't stress. If you had a 4.0 and 90+, you are guaranteed.... Don't stress yourself out. All of us who finished the program laughed about how stressed we were about getting in. 700 people didn't take it. This lady ms padmore always has a 3.5-3.7 cutoff to not waste people's time. It's closer to 200-250 yearly. During my year it was 3.7 because most classes were online and gpa was inflated. online ap vs in person ap is a big difference.

How to calculate your score

PCI GPA (although your OVERALL gpa can be high, they are only looking at the following classes - ENG101, PSY100, MAT 104, BIO425 & CHEM121).
So actually only the gpa from these classes .

PLUS the
• HESI grade W/ CT

Together .

Example :

• PCI GPA - 3.7
• HESI Math - 92
• HESI Reading - 93
• HESI A&P - 100
• Critical Thinking - 950/1000 = 95

1) HESI AVERAGE

92+93+100+95/4 = 95

So, HESI score = 95%

2) PCI (GPA) Portion

GPA** **= 3.7

(3.7/4.0) x 50 = 46.25

3) HESI Portion

(95/100) x 50 = 47.5

4) Total Competitive Score

46.25 + 47.5 = 93.75

FINAL SCORE: 93.75

I am pretty sure they do not round to keep it competitive.

I hope this helps everyone out 🫣
