Another thing , personal devices

Hello again freshies,

There were also a bunch of questions about personal devices , you cannot take out any of your own devices in front of a teacher , because they have full right to confiscate it and report you to the dean( and trust me you don’t want that , because they will question you like you committed a crime ) . The only way you can access any platform is when attending library or auditorium where they give you iPads ( PLEASE COME EARLY BECAUSE PEOPLE TAKE THEM ALL QUICKLY ) . Another way is to just sit somewhere on the stairs , just be sneaky and look out for teachers and deans.

Now I know that some teachers boycott this rule and allow you to take out phones during the lesson , but there’s less than 20 of teachers like that. So don’t risk it . It ain’t worth it.

Also , orientation + first day

And hello again freshies ,

I’m here to tell you what your two days will look like in nearest future

Orientation : you come to school , wait for half an hour under the sun ( that is to say don’t come early ) . They get you all to auditoriums, give you your tech merch ( a water bottle and a planner ) , then sophomores and juniors will take you away in groups and lead you in a room , you will all sit down , then get a chance to ask them something about the school and then just hang out with people around you while you wait. Once the time comes , you will go on a quest to run to different places across the school ( SO WEAR CLOTHES UR COMFORTABLE RUNNING IN ) and winner of that quest gets free gym uniform and locks which ( if you ask me ) is huge bc you don’t have to spend money on them. Then you go home.

First day of school , you come into your prefect ( they will send you an email telling you where it is ) there , you will be given your schedule, OMNY card and a pouch to put your phone in ( NOT YONDR POUCHES , BTHS ≠ hell) . Then you will go to auditorium to listen to boring speeches , then you go to your first class , after all classes are over you go home , there are no clubs or activities ( as far as I know ) that day .

I hope this helped , bye bye

To all Freshies abt AP bio

Guys , if you’re not planning to do something bio sci related in your future , not worth it , drop it , take physics , it will be much easier for you to learn chem in sophomore year , and you won’t overwork yourself or , god forbid , get a 1-10 . Trust me I had a 1-10 freshman year and hated my life for that

BTHS Course Planner webapp I am making

Hello Brooklyn Tech community,

I am working on a BTHS course planner called TechPlan, which allows users to dynamically plan their schedule for all 4 years. It uses real class data and scheduling constraints.

TechPlan is still in development, so if you notice any logic bugs, missing classes/features, or have any tips for improvement—especially how to make it more intuitive—that would be much appreciated.

I am trying to account for all the niche scenarios. For example: someone takes a class and has to take another class a different year to make up for a credit.

You should view it on desktop for it to work best

Here: https://techplan-red-apple.reflex.run

Thanks

Device policies for personal work devices? Tablets and computers more so.

I know some one just made a post talking about if you can take notes on iPad's but that didn't clear up the confusion I have about the device policy. Almost everyone says to have a iPad or computer on our for Brooklyn tech for work but then I also hear personal devices aren't allowed? And the only school appropriate devices get loaned out instead of being able to be took home and given back at the end of the year. Can you have personal work devices on you? Does it depend on teachers or will you get it taken away. Should I buy one for freshman year? 😵‍💫

Freshman year school supplies list, what to have on you daily, sgo store needs ext.

I'm a incoming freshman coming from the discovery program looking for some pointers on what to buy and bring! I understand that the official supply list already came out to those who got accepted in normally for Brooklyn Tech. I was wondering if anyone could drop that for all the discovery kids because we get all the information very, very late and I have to get my supplies early for other reasons. Also there's teacher enforced supply lists for specific classes that I can wait for. Are there any specifics you need from the SGO store or just some good items to get ?

ipads?

I'm an incoming freshman. How do teachers feel if you take notes on your iPad? I was thinking of bringing mine, but are they common among students?

To get into Math Team (Junior Math Analysis Class) as a freshman?

How difficult is it to get into the Junior Math Analysis class as a freshman? Is it very competitive?

My son is currently working on the placement problems and was wondering how difficult it is to get in.

Any insight from current or former students would be appreciated!

Is AP Bio worth it in freshman year?

Hi again!! I was wondering about AP Bio. I wanted to take it, but also sent an application for the Student Leadership elective. However, I was thinking to take the Neuroscience Major in junior/senior year, so I'm pretty sure I'll have to take it eventually. Is it worth it to take in freshman year?

do you need to start building your application for college as a freshman?

I am a rising freshman at Brooklyn Tech, and I had a couple questions.

For starters, I'm into neuroscience and stuff, specifically as a neuroscientist researcher, and I want a career in that. What clubs should I join?

Second, I also love theater and was interested in joining this year's Blithe Spirit. However, I'm not pursuing acting in the future. Would that be a waste of 2 and 1/2 months?

Third, If I decide get into Science Oly or theater, will I have to choose between the two? My parents are telling me to map out my career already, but I kind of just wanted to settle in and enjoy Tech for my first year.

Any advice from sophomores, juniors, seniors, or alumni would be helpful! Thanks!

Potential Incoming Discovery Student (The image is what my math teacher said as a goodbye)

Hello, I have completed the Discovery Program for Brooklyn Tech yesterday. I finished with a 96 in math and an 88 in ela, and had no behavioral issues or absences. They said that they'd give an email within two days if you got in or not - so I may receive my email on Saturday, August 8th. I am incredibly anxious.

I've gotten emails about Brooklyn Tech from Mary Huhn even before the discovery program and while I was in it. I was very confused because I haven't even gotten accepted into Brooklyn Tech. I checked with my other two friends who go to the discovery program with me, and they've also gotten the same emails.

In addition, I've seen that the incoming freshmen in this subreddit were talking about joining AP classes, and I'm curious how they did that because I have gotten no email to sign up for AP classes. The only emails I've gotten from Mary Huhn were about joining the math team, the incoming student survey, and the leadership classes.

Is there something wrong or have I just not gotten into Brooklyn Tech?
