Got a weird FINAL

Got a weird time-loop ending after trying to resurrect Anthea. Did I miss the resurrection requirements?

Hi everyone,

I'm confused about the ending I got and I'm trying to understand what exactly I did wrong.

At the beginning of the game I swore to resurrect Anthea.

Throughout the game I completed a lot of Haunting Cases and I accused several settlers. Some examples I remember:

Thickskin (The Beast)

Creedence Scudder

Hugh Batcheler

Caleb and Alexander

Theodore Sheppard

Several other living culprits whenever I believed they were responsible

I definitely did not play as a full "Ascension" character. I condemned quite a few people during my playthrough.

Near the end, after defeating the Nightmare, I got a sequence that really looked like the resurrection ritual was working.

Deborah appeared to be redeemed. She was crying, curled up on the ground, saying she was tired of the hatred after we had banished/purged her evil side.

Then the resurrection ritual started.

Anthea woke up and said something along the lines of:

"You promised you would bring me back."

For a moment I genuinely thought I had unlocked the resurrection ending.

Then Deborah suddenly reappeared laughing, the Nightmare returned, the Seeker returned, the old witch returned, everything fell apart, and after the ending sequence Red woke up on the beach again in what looked like a time loop.

Credits rolled.

What confuses me is that I still had several Haunting Cases left unfinished before going to the final island. Looking at my save, I probably still had around 6+ unresolved cases across different regions.

So my questions are:

Did I get the actual time-loop ending?

Is this what happens when you choose Resurrection but don't condemn enough people?

Could I still unlock the resurrection ending by loading my pre-island save, finishing the remaining Haunting Cases, and condemning more settlers?

Is there a known minimum number of condemnations required for Resurrection?

I'm trying to figure out whether I was close to the Resurrection ending or if I was already locked out long before the finale.

Thanks!

we have ost/soundtrack at home

extra, extra, read all about it!

hiii everyone! even though I want to replay the game again, I'm still haunted by the fact that we didn't get the soundtrack. so I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and fix it! (I went a little crazy during the process and it turned out to be more difficult than I initially thought lol)

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13n76zpJvmNUegJUGmPLYcM_Re4joSHVG?usp=sharing here we gooo

and because I downloaded all the sounds during the experiment, it will take me some time to sort them out, so the files will be updated lmao stay tuned and stuff

Did anyone else catch what seems like a Nero Wolfe reference?

I’m playing Banishers and came across a bit of dialogue about a famous Banisher named “Nero Fox” (if I got that right) during the Bathsheba case. If I remember correctly, Antea say he solved all of his cases without ever leaving his chair/home, while his apprentice did all the legwork.

That immediately made me think of the detective duo Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. Wolfe famously hated leaving his house and relied on Archie to do the field work and investigations.

It feels way too specific to be a coincidence, but I haven’t seen anyone mention it online. Did anyone else hear this dialogue and get the same impression? Has the developer ever confirmed whether Nero Fox was intended as a reference or homage? I haven’t found any discussion about it so far.

An absolute gem dragged down by repetition

When I first started playing this game, having randomly selected it from my game pass library, I thought “man, how have I slept on this!? This game is great!” But now that I’m about 45 hours into it… it feels like a full time job and I just really can’t be assed to play it anymore. I know I’m really close to the end but… I just don’t care. I’m legit just not having fun anymore. Every side quest is the same, every enemy encounter is the same, and there is SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH backtracking. It’s so mind numblingly boring at this point that I’m officially ready to throw up my hands and give up without ever even seeing the ending. If they had just made the game a bit smaller with not so much busy side work involved, made it last 40 hours at absolute most, it could have been SO much better. But as it stands, it’s an exercise in patience which I don’t have enough of to endure it. I really want to love this game because I do love the idea of it. But they’ve padded it out so hard with nothing but repetitious busywork content that it just loses its soul. Which is, admittedly, what MOST RPG games these days sadly do and I hated to see banishers fall victim to the trend.
