Planning an extended trip to Batumi next year

Hey all,

I’m 26M from the US and I’m planning an extended trip to Batumi next August, for 6 months to a year. Curious to get some perspective on the city from people who live or have stayed there, things to keep in mind, places to visit, and would also just love to make connections with people before I go! Any advice is welcome and appreciated!

I speak English, some polish, spanish, and know bits and pieces of a few other languages, I haven’t started learning Georgian yet but plan to before I go.

3 days in Batumi and almost nobody says hello or thank you in shops. Normal?

Been in Batumi 3 days. I'm a foreigner (German), I speak English, and I say hello and thank you every single time I walk into a shop.

Most of the time I get nothing back. No hello, no thank you, no bye. The cashier takes the money, drops the change on the counter and looks past me at the next person. Same thing in two supermarkets, a bakery, a pharmacy and a couple of cafes.

I'm not expecting small talk. A basic hello would do. After three days it's honestly starting to get on my nerves, which is probably more my problem than theirs.

Is this just how it is here?

Thank You Batumi. It was truly unforgettable!

Despite all the negative comments we had heard about hospitality and various other aspects of Georgia - The warmth and kindness of Georgian people we met, incredible food and wine, breathtaking nature, beautiful beaches, and unique architecture made this trip truly unforgettable.

We travelled all the way from USA, through (homeland) Kazakhstan and finally to Georgia. Batumi gave us so many wonderful memories, experiences, and moments that we will cherish for a long time.

Every destination has its imperfections, but for us, the beauty, culture, ‘unique’ 😉hospitality, and overall atmosphere of Georgia far outweighed the negative things we had heard.

We absolutely loved our time in Batumi and are already hoping to be back very soon! 🇬🇪❤️
Until next time, Georgia! ✈️🌊🍷

English speaking expats

What you think in what Batumi should be doing better to attract English speaking expats more than Ruzzian ones?

I would start with service and infrastructure.

Where to play basketball in batumi?

Does anyone know where to play basketball? I saw an indoor court in the maps but couldn't find any details on how to join for a game. I found a few basketball courts near Pirosmani street but looks like people play football there. Anyone here hoops?

Vorrei provare a vivere e lavorare a Batumi

Anyhow i can get apartment?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to rent a studio apartment in any of the Orbi towers (City, Sea Towers, Beach Tower, etc.) in Batumi starting from sept 12
Budget: ~600 GEL / month
From September 12
I know summer peak season is ending around mid-September, so I'm hoping to connect directly with an owner or someone looking for a reliable, respectful tenant.
Thanks in advance

ADHD meds help

Hello 😄
I am wondering if anyone has the same issue as me... I have ADHD and I need medication but Georgia is very strict on bringing stimulants in the country. I know I wont get the same thing that I could get in Europe (prescribed), but there has to be some kind of solution or something similiar to it. Should I go to a private doctor and get prescription there? Should I go outside the country? Please help or private message if anyone can help :(

Thank you <3

Batumi Blue Sky Tower

Id like to know experiences of those who have invested in the premium branded apartments by Holiday Inn Resort. Considering investing there.

Queer/ Gay friendly Bars/pubs

Hi, I’m visiting Batumi for couple of days, I was wondering if there are any queers or gay friendly, or overall (considering the conservatism) open spaces to hang out in and meet people? I saw there was a post about that, but the that bars are closed now😕
