Some Winter Logistics Questions

Hello!

Seeing as you've got a 16 mile ski into Chimney Pond and a 16 mile ski out, and for me a 5-hour 300-mile drive from home to Abol bridge, are most adventurers spending the night at a hotel in Millnocket before and after their trip?

From what I can gather, there is no camping next to your vehicle at the Abol Parking lot in winter. There is Abol Pines and/or Abol Bridge Campgrounds near the parking lot, but I imagine these are closed, and I presume camping there is not allowed or encouraged.

Is there a preferred hotel/motel in Millinocket that caters to the winter adventure crowd that you might recommend?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Please don't line up in your vehicle outside the gate before 5AM.

Sleeping in your car on park property is illegal camping.

Do not camp out at Caribou Pit - it's an emergency services staging area and National Guard medi-evac landing zone.

The Togue Pond picnic area is gated at night - it is not a free campsite.

Thanks!

South Branch - distance from gate

Once we have checked in at the gate, how long is the drive to South Branch campground? I’m trying to gauge a good arrival time so we are not setting up camp in the dark.

South Branch Pond Campground

Anybody have pictures of site 30. Myself and two friends are heading up next weekend and were wondering what the site looks like, what it can accommodate. Any info greatly appreciated.
