I just unboxed a brand new CR-10 Mini in 2026 - advice very welcome!

So after *8 years* of being lost in storage during a house and country move, I finally reunited with my brand new Creality CR-10 Mini that was never opened 😄

It ended up stored away safely alongside a bunch of retro gaming gear hoarded over the years - C64, Atari, Sega, cartridge parts, etc. I always resisted buying another printer because I *knew* this thing was still out there somewhere.

A few weeks ago I finally found it, got it running, and started printing happy as a kid on Christmas!

So far I've done a few cartridge shells, adapters, and small retro gaming related parts. Already learned a few lessons the hard way too - like hairspray apparently being way nicer than tape, and also how easy it is to ruin a nozzle during a filament swap 😅

That led me down the rabbit hole of realizing just how much the 3D printing world changed in the last 8 years.

So far I've ordered:

* Replacement nozzles

* 235x235 PEI plate + magnetic base

* filament dust filter/sponge

* BLTouch-style auto leveling clone

* 1.5m extension cable kit

* spare PTFE tubing

* filament runout sensor (though I know the stock 8-bit board may not support it properly)

I've already noticed that despite many people still loving the CR-10 series, a lot of recommendations here nowadays understandably lean toward “just buy a refurbished Ender instead.”

I really appreciate the honesty in this sub - it’s refreshing compared to some communities.

But… this CR-10 Mini is literally brand new after all these years, and I kind of want to give it some proper TLC instead of replacing it, and to perhaps suffer a bit too 😁

So I had a few questions for people still familiar with these machines:

  1. Besides the upgrades above, what else would you recommend if I do want to get the most out of a CR-10 Mini in 2026?

  2. For example, was going with a 235x235 PEI plate the right move, or would a 305x305 have made more sense despite the overhang?

The Mini’s odd 235x305 sizing seems to make replacement plates weirdly expensive compared to standard sizes.

  1. Is moving from the stock 8-bit board to a modern 32-bit board actually worthwhile for relatively simple use cases?

I mainly expect to print practical things like cartridge shells, adapters, brackets, and retro modding parts - not giant helmets or dragon statues.

But if upgrading opens the door to genuinely useful features/reliability improvements, I’m definitely interested.

  1. Any recommendations for *current* guides/videos worth watching?

It’s pretty difficult filtering through nearly a decade of old CR-10 content and figuring out what’s still relevant today or not.

  1. I'm totally assuming the mini is still best friends with just PLA spools, but if there's advice here I'd be happy to learn too.

Thanks for reading the long post, and thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

Standalone CR10 Setup! WIP still

Just wanted to share a control panel I've been testing to make this cutie a standalone device I can move anywhere with zero cable/boxes messing. I'll finish cable management before panel setup: Onboard klipper host + Home Assistant automation (power, thermals, ADXL345 X/Y functions, pause/emergency buttons, simple OLED display). Thinking of a PETG-GF fixture to hold everything together to be mounted
underneath printer's plate (printer and plate cold welded). Final mod i swear!

Firmware

Does anyone have a custom firmware of mriscoc for the cr 10 with an ender 3 v2 screen and made for a 4.2.7 motherboard? Maybe possibly have stuff for a bl touch? I am trying to save time instead of learning how to make my own because I’m lost.

Cr10 s4 nozzle not touching the bed after nozzle replacement

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. I have not much experience with 3d printers.I have a cr-10 s4 whose board has been upgraded by a tech with an added touch probe for auto levelling. Recently the nozzle of my printer got clogged so I changed the nozzle and levelled it once manually by using the paper method then ran the auto bed levelling regime and after everything looked perfect I ran my print and it started doing this. The tech who upgraded this printer is on vacation and I have a job that I need to complete. Kindly can anyone tell me what the problem could be and how I can solve it. I have shared the pictures that I think might be helpful. Any help is much appreciated.

Regards and Thanks in advance

Thermal runaway, what’s fixed it?

I’ve got a CR-10S that’s been having thermal runaway problems. I’ve replaced the thermistors, upgraded the board to BTT SKR V1.4, marlin firmware, TCM2209 drivers, ohm checked the wiring, deep cleaned the hot end, cleaned out the thermistor pot again in the hot end, checked the heating element. Did a 25-30 minute dry run at 240c earlier today, no issues

Printing with PTEG at 240c nozzle temp, thermal runaway after 6ish minutes. I don’t know what else I’m missing to fix this problem. I’m considering a new element and hot end.

BTT SKR V1.4 upgrade, need help

So I’m little over my head with this but so far I know the board isn’t bricked. Upgraded because 1. It came with the printer when I bought it 2. I keep having “THERMAL RUNAWAY” errors with the Creality controller. I’ve replaced the thermistors twice so I’m thinking the board is the issue.

I followed the instructions from BTT, created and loaded my firmware but I don’t have a working screen. In the Marlin firmware I have the CR10 stock display enabled and only EXP1 plugged in (doesn’t matter if both are plugged in, still inop). On top of that, Windows 11 is being an asshole and won’t install the INF driver for the BTT board to communicate. Has anyone else done this upgrade and been successful? What am I missing?

2nd Hand Warning signs

Hey, I’m buying my first 3d printer and I’ve got eyes on a CR10 (I think it’s a gen 1) the issue is im buying from a guy who doesn’t know how it works, and I also dont really know. So I’m parsing through the manual, as a starting point I’m gonna be checking everything on the parts list is there. What id like to know is, what are the things I should be looking out for, anything where the fix isn’t worth it? I’m not afraid of a little tinkering, but if the things a lemon I won’t buy.

For reference I’m paying £50 for it.

1-What kind of test other than a test print can I do in under 5 minutes

2- What are any obvious warning signs should I look for?

3- what are any

Press F for respect

After 10 years of service, its time to lay her to rest.

Bittersweet. Sad to see her go, happy I'll never have to tinker it again.

Creality cr10s pro upgrade

In lookin into what to buy so i can upgrade my cr10s pro im looking at the hot end on the picture, extrudor on the picture, gowden capricorn tube and the PEI plate on the picture which is for the k1 max but dimensions are close enough. Im also looking into building a enclosure made of plexiglass and make it so the filament extrudes directly in to the head. But still i want to upgrade it even more so what upgrades do you recommend
