Why do people seem to hate Venus?

It's been 2 years, 7 months and a week since season 4 ended and Venus officially won, but this past year especially it seems that people have...soured on her? Why?

TL;DR I love season 4 and I liked Venus on it. Is it something she did beyond the show that make people irked by her? I wanna know, but please let's be civil and not rancid. You can dislike someone and not antagonize them and I don't want this post to be locked up. I'm just trying to learn.

Full disclosure, I haven't kept up with her socials or personal life. Aside from everything shown on her season, the most I know is that she changed her mug and she's wearing body/has given up on the androgynous bent entirely.

While I was prepared to dislike her in Episode 1 for just having the fashion/look queen stereotype vibe, she won me over as the season got going. She seemed determined to push herself comedically (such as in the Rusical and a bit in the infomercial, for what that challenge was worth), her lip syncs to "Invited" and "Pull Up" were completely raw and while her non-tucking "brand" was a bit whatever, I think she was incredibly inventive and creative with her looks. Even when they amounted to just showing body, most of them had a little detail that just elevated them a bit. I had to give props on her red fur runway (although I did get schadenfreude when her leg fur slid down during the lip-sync 🤭), her finale gown, mug and hair were so gorgeous they gave me body dysmorphia and my favorite look of her's is her bridesmaids flower gown with the petals for hair! She also had my respect in Untucked when combatting with Melinda (whomst I ADORE). While most queens of her calibre and age would become shrinking violets during a crash out like this, I commended Venus for shouting back and trying to keep the peace without being a pushover (I think of "Woah...woah....WOAH!😡" all the time).

I hope I don't sound too glazing, but I'm saying that she had a narrative that justified her win ultimately. I wasn't fully satisfied with out top 4; They were all strong, but they all had glaring issues that held me back from rooting for any of them to fully win, but out of all of them Venus seemed to have the clearest storyline. She'd never been in the bottom but she also wasn't coasting. She was super present and consistently produced good work even beyond her look-queen sensibilities and on top of that she had a point to represent her indigenous heritage. I'm not saying that representation automatically deserves brownie points, but there seemed to be substance to her is all. Maybe not the most astonishing winner in Drag Race ever but she wasn't a roach. She did very good.

But that's on the show and that's behind the edit. Has she done something off of the show that I didn't hear about? Did she say something? Do her out-of-drag thirst traps on Insta annoy people? Did they just hate her step-down look? (fair) It just blindsided me how dismissive people seem of her as a winner when at least in the edit of the show her win seems justified.

Again, be civil. I'm genuinely trying to just learn.

About the finale

I dont know about you guys, but I think the last two episodes of this allstars season could potentially be the best two episodes In all allstarses except maybe season 2 us allstars.

The format for the last challenge gave everybody a chance to show up and show off, the confidence in nearah when she was lip syncing agains tifanny, you could see she s got her shit together. and that finale, OMG that lipsync, moved every muscle in me, Mind you, i was literally falling asleep before putting the episode on but my god i didn’t sleep until an hour after it, it filled my heart with joy seeing two of the best performers if not THE BEST PERFORMERS IN ALL FRANCHISES eat eachother up in that lipsync.

What other moments from the franchise that made you feel like that ?

Ps : I hope i wasn’t just high. 😂

How Many Queens are Fluent in French?

I know for example Sami Landri, Rita Baga, Kiara, Lady Boom Boom, Sisi Superstar and Velma Jones are fluent if I’m not mistaken. I’m not sure about Pythia, Suki Doll, Denim, Uma Gahd, Paolo Perfección, Adriana
or Océane Aqua-Black. As far as I know Gisèle Lullaby is the only Canadian winner who is Fluent in French.

.Then outside of Canadian Queens from Quebec and New Brunswick, idk if any others are fluent.

Canada All Stars Different Format

So I’ve been thinking if CAS wanted to adopt a past format from US All Stars, I think it should be Lip Sync Assassins as they have enough for 2 maybe 3 seasons. Here are a few from every season

S1
Priyanka
Scarlet Bobo
Lemon
Tynomi Banks

S2
Icesis Couture
Gia Metric
Synthia Kiss

S3
Jada Shada Hudson
Kimmy Couture
Miss Fiercalicious

S4
Venus
Aurora Matrix
Nearah Nuff

S5
The Virgo Queen
Makayla Couture
Tiffany Ann Co.

S6
Eboni La’Belle
PM
Karamilk
Saltina Shaker

S7
I’m not from Canada so don’t really know the rumoured queens but from the ones I’ve heard of from other Canadian queens I follow there’s at least 3 good lipsyncers who I won’t be saying here because I don’t want to spoil the cast for people who don’t know it.

Season 1 OMG

I know I'm late to the party, I just signed up for WOW but omg season 1 is so AMAZING. These lip syncs are so good! The shade, the comedy, the touching stories. And I love Lemon and Priyanka's jabs and confessionals lol. I just finished the pageant episode.

Edit for typo and to put this😂

Update-Finished the season last night and was so happy!!! On to season 2!!!

why did none of the judges on CDR mention how rough jimbos makeup was?

i’m rewatching CDR1 and dear god… jimbos makeup was honestly some of the worst makeup i’ve ever seen on drag race💀.

i’m not a professional, but he just looks so… flat and 1 dimensional. at times it looks like he just smashed his face in white powder, put on blush and lipstick and called it a day. i don’t think i saw a single critique of how horrible his makeup is throughout the whole season? except when JBC said he needed to have the pasty white on his arms.

not that it matters now that his makeup is actually amazing! but it’s just weird it wasn’t mentioned at the time.

Most random place to meet a Queen

I ran into Priyanka at the Alliston potato festival today. Anyone else have “randomly ran into a Queen in an unexpected location” stories?
