A quick question about Dolph's backstory

So, for those who've been watching the series for a while, a quick reminder: In the first episode (around 8:30), we're given a rough outline of Dolph's biography, told by the Rayman.

That he's the son of a migrant and a prostitute, became a crack addict at age 9, nearly died, and was taken into some sort of rehabilitation program by the Eden Corporation, turning him into their supersoldier.

It sounds like a pretty generous move on the part of the evil megacorporation (considering that, judging by what was shown, Dolph wasn't nameless operative of some corporate spec-ops, but a relatively high-profile media figure with a certain level of power and authority).
But given that all of this is being said by the host of their own show, there's a huge unreliable narrator effect, as if Eden obviously wouldn't say something that would damage their reputation and enhance that of their enemy.

But was there any reliable information out there, and what was Dolph's actual background? Or is everything said here true, except that Eden did not say anything about their ownership of his implants?
