Great interview from July 2024, on Caroline's debut as a solo artist, struggles, creative process & more. It was a very enjoyable read and I figured you guys would love it.
Here's my fav quote as a mise en bouche:
>!"Of course, I’m very aware of my own tendencies, which are to be fucking surgically precise with my own rhythmic singing. And what am I conveying with surgical rhythmic precision? I’m conveying that I’m a fucking nerd, that I’m really type A, that I’m paying very close attention. And I often want to convey the opposite of those things in my music, but I don’t really have a choice. [Laughs.]"!<
I literally listened to her album like 3x and I’m in the top?? 😭😭😭
I really want to print it out for my room. I was wondering if anyone has it scanned in high enough quality to print.
I'm not gonna lie, many of you are probably longtime fans of her and probably have a different approach to finding good music, but I'll admit, I'm a relatively new fan who got introduced to her back in early 2024 by Anthony Fantano.
I was looking for some good music and watched Fantano's “Best of 2023” video, where Desire was featured. It's worth noting that I had previously listened to Jesse Ware's What's Your Pleasure album because he recommended it back in 2021 (I didn’t know her at the time either), and it became one of my all time favorites, and later Chelsea Wolfe's She Reaches Out to She which was also a masterpiece.
First thing that I saw/heard from Caroline was 'Welcome to My Island' music video and it blew me away on the spot! After that I watched every single one of her music videos (including the Chairlift stuff) and later listened to the Everasking version of Desire many times.
Three years ago I took a trip to Los Angeles with cousins to visit Yosemite National Park. It was a beautiful trip that was made even more special when I realized I could push my flight home by a day and squeeze in one more show on The Spiraling tour. This turned out to be one of the best ideas, as that night we were treated with special appearances by Charli XCX (Welcome to my Island), Sudan Archives (violins on Blood and Butter), and Natalie of Weyes Blood, dueting Butterfly Net for the first time. I've been sleeping on these photo edits but finally here they are. Hope this helps during this current Caroline drought.
I need a new album, BADLY! 😭😭😭😭😭 that’s all I wanted to say
From her new insta story!
