TW: Animal abuse/domestic abuse, today’s episode

I could have gone my entire life without knowing about a man jerking off while killing a cat…but for some reason that is a topic they chose to discuss today. I can’t believe we went from silly memoirs to a man skinning rabbits. Like what a pivot.

Karissa Shannon Speaks Out.... By Herself

Lisa Guerrero just posted a lengthy interview with Karissa Shannon, talking about the "twin gimmick" with her sister Kristina, their current relationship and what life has looked like since the Secrets of Playboy interview they did a few years ago.

so i got the patreon again

I got it bc of the caroline calloway drama (needed the gossip after fluently forward which i just unsubscribed to her patreon) and I was like shit well I have it for the month, might as well see what I missed (I unsubscribed to good noticings patreon like in march bc I don't really watch reality TV and tbh Clare was pissing me off) and I didn't realize how good of an interviewer Clare is?? She's so good on the ep with Kardashian Kolloquim and so fucking great talking Aesthetica with Josh TelltheBees. Like I'm not a fan of Good Noticing I think/thought it was a huge mistake, but Clare as an interviewer? Somewhere between Late Night and NPR? I like it. I'm now scanning through the Patreon for interviews regardless of if I've read the book or not.

I hate that I’m that person now but Claire is really ruining the pod for me

I know so many people have said this and I’ve always kinda been like whatever, I’m a sarcastic direct person too I understand her takes. But damn the worm to the wise episodes lately where she is just so mean to listeners of HER podcast is making me want to tune out. Yea people ask dumb questions (I’m sure they have some super young listeners) but she can choose not to answer instead of be so mean. I’m so sad bc this was my favorite podcast for a long time and I’m slowly getting the ick. I feel like she truly hates her audience. What a bummer.

Where to find Claire and Ashley's recommendations in one place?

Is there anywhere where the recs from the beginning of the episodes are compiled, eg Instagram/ Patreon? I'd like to see some of the recent TV/ film recommendations and I don't want to trawl back through listening to all the eps.

Patreon

I’ve not had much of a problem with the main pod, but god the Patreon is dull 😭 I’ve been thinking about cancelling for a while and thank god for Caroline Calloway being insane and making it a bit more interesting. I’ve seen the line up for this week’s Patreon and I may skip it all together it looks so boring

I like it

I am sure I will be dragged because I know this isn't the tone of posts here, but I like the new format. The old format was fun for big hitter memoirs, but it was getting stale. It's not always a perfect podcast, but two non-experts discussing things is not new for a podcast format (MFM, Arm Chair experts, Stuff you Should Know)..... I for one am here for it.

I wish people would stop review bombing it, it is genuinely one of the highlights of my week and I hope it keeps going.

Edit: typo! I had put “big hitter members” but meant memoirs.

Finding their constant need for depth grating

I miss CMBC but still listen to GN. However,

I feel like this year they’ve been trying a lot harder to sound academic or intellectual, and sometimes it feels like they’re extrapolating a level of depth or meaning from things where there maybe isn’t that much there.

I think it’s a broader podcasting trend rather than something specific to them or to female podcasters — there seems to be a style of podcasting now where everything has to become a deeper cultural analysis or have some kind of intellectual takeaway. I actually think it’s fine to just talk about pop culture at face value sometimes! Not everything needs to be analysed to death. Also reminds me of the criticism Emma Chamberlain caught for intellectualising (if that is a word) her content - people said she would benefit from going to college.

I do wonder if they’ve been influenced by podcasts like Shameless and Diabolical Lies, which I think lean more into that style, but I don’t mean that as a criticism of female podcasters generally. It’s just not really the direction I enjoy as much.

And I really wish they’d stop talking about tech and AI so much.

I like to re-listen to old episodes.

I prefer their old episodes reviewing celebrity memoirs, their dynamic is so much better, they’re really good at summarising a book. I wish they kept doing celebrity memoirs and added the new format as a separate episode like beyond the blinds or a separate podcast. I still listen to the new show but it doesn’t hit the same as the old one.

I know worms don’t rat but…

Can someone please give the intel on their response to caroline calloway on the podcast. I’m in China for a few weeks and Patreon is not available to download. Thanks!

if you want more caroline calloway x CMBC analysis…

Listen on Spotify

My sister and I host a very niche (read: unknown) society & culture podcast. Last week’s Caroline Calloway crash out made for an unlikely intersection of both our parasocial internet interests—CC for her and CMBC for me. We discussed it for the first 25-ish minutes of our latest pod, so I figured I would share it here in case anyone is hungry for more content!!

We are definitively notttt a part of the NYC/brooklyn creator scene, just two women from seattle who enjoy engaging with the discourse in a semi-critical way. 😄 lmk if you listen, and if you agree with our takes!

(and so sorry if this is not allowed lol)

ETA: The pod is called The Discourse! We’re also on Apple Podcasts and Substack - we’re the one with the black and white prof image.

Can anyone remember a tv show Ashley reco’d recently?

I’ve gone back and can’t find it in the most recent pods. I swear it started with an S or was a one or two word title. I remember looking it up and it seemed good but now can’t find it! Thnx

Is there known beef between claire and wemetatacme??

Wemetatacme (pod hosted by an NYC influencer) commented this on Caroline Calloway’s insta post about Claire and Ashley being “the fakest bitches in nyc.”

Is there lore here i’m missing? apologies if this is not news—I only recently subscribed to the patreon, so i’m not clued in to all the behind-the-scenes drama.

is this true? if so i did not know this…

caroline calloway story about claire…is this true about her saying the n word??

edit: this post was not meant to like defend cc or stoke flames against claire—i just had not heard about this (tweet from 2013) and was looking for clarification since cc isn’t the most reliable narrator…
