I have to buy a wine gift for a coworker and I’m stuck

I don’t know him well its a work relationship, so wine felt like the most reliable “adult” gift option but now I’m staring at bottles wondering if price means anything or if we all just collectively pretend it does. Like if I buy the expensive one will it actually be better or I just feel like it’s better because it cost more? Any safe picks or places to look for decent recommendations?

A brighter, more elegant california cabernet. Probably one of the few I've actually liked. Far from the typical overripe oak juice.

Broadbent Vinho Verde $11.99

Super Refreshing, a little spritz to the wine, that actually stuck around after being open for a day in the fridge! At 9% Alc you don’t have to feel guilty about going back for a second glass!
