Yet another moan about the wind

It's so windy today!!! I've been in Christchurch for just over a year now, and the weather has been very unpleasant. Before I moved, people said Christchurch's weather is like Hastings and Nelson's... it's not. I miss Hastings' weather 😭

Biking home from uni today was terrible: cold, loud, strong side and headwind that pushed me off course.

NZ is the fourth windiest country in the world...I might move to another country.

Anybody know what these structures are at Godley Head?

I'm working on mapping out all of the ww1 and ww2 remnants still around in NZ, and I came across these two buildings along the Godley Head cliffs and couldn't find any information on them? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Talking about the building midway down the cliff in the first image

Woke up to this 5:45am in Glen Eden (next door)

Wed 12 Aug

About 8 commando looking dudes all around the property, guy on a megaphone. 2 guys with massive guns outside our 6mo baby's room. They had a drone, helicopter and dogs too.

Was scary, not sure what they were looking for or the outcome.

Wolfbrook Hellscape

Am I crazy or is this Wolfbrook development on Welles/Colombo just kinda scary looking? It's almost fractal-like.

Also for context I live in city-center, not opposed to high-density, but bruh.

Amount of townhouses on the property market

Recently started looking to buy a house and can't believe how many of these 2 storey townhouses are on the market. Last time I was buying 7 years ago was completely different there were not many of these things then. Now you have to sift through pages of these to try to find something different. Who is gonna buy all these things? And seeing as the market is over saturated with them is there potential for some bargains or are they just overpriced/poor quality?

Warning: Scary encounter at CHCH City Central

My friend and I had a pretty frightening experience tonight in Christchurch and thought it was worth sharing.

While walking back to our car from St Asaph Street to Allen St, a young kiwi white man approached us and demanded money, phones, and wallets. He said: Give me your wallet, otherwise I’ll just f you. The situation felt threatening enough that we immediately ran to a nearby business to seek help.

Thankfully, there were some incredibly kind people there who helped us and made sure we got back to our car safely. Nothing terrible happened, but it was definitely a scary experience and not something either of us expected to encounter this in Christchurch.

I’ve always considered New Zealand to be a relatively safe place, which made this incident even more surprising.

Sharing this just to remind to stay alert if you’re walking around the CBD at night, especially in quieter areas.

Update: This incident happened at Madras St and reported to the police.

Jepus the debate about apartments..

Heating up much? Every second person is talking about the oversupply of apartments with no parking, and airbnb etc. Didn't think it was quite that bad?
