Melee vs. ranged: Am I missing something?

Greetings! I'm the type of player who always gravitates toward optimized builds and the hardest content. I've been a 2H melee DPS player in pretty much every RPG or action game I've played, and after well over a thousand games over the years, it's just the playstyle that fits me best.

I'm still very new to this game (about 4–5 hours in), so I may be missing something obvious, but I have a question about melee vs. ranged.

I've been seeing clips of ranged builds clearing entire rooms from a distance in just a few seconds while enemies barely get a chance to interact with them. Meanwhile, melee characters seem to have less AoE, need to spend time dodging mechanics, and inevitably take more hits simply because they're in the thick of it.

Does melee eventually catch up in the endgame? For example, can a Breaker become competitive with those kinds of ranged clears through gear, builds, or scaling? Or does the endgame mostly revolve around ranged builds and screen-wide explosions?

I'd love to hear from more experienced players before I commit too heavily to a melee character.

decorated my base and wanted to show it to people

pics dont do justice but decided to try how the building works and honestly suprised how good it its already, and no im not some amazing builder so its not perfect just a fun project. In the pics I decided to build a suburb for the workers, a cozy market and lastly a garden. Hoping to see great things with this games future

This game is amazing

While it definitely shows it’s alpha state sometimes, the game as a whole is amazing! I have gotten super invested in refining the Odin shell and technically finished Arcadia but there is so much more to do. More islands, more dungeons, harder difficulties, expeditione, etc. My long time friend had it on his wishlist so i decided to send it to home late last night. Im ready to see how it is co-op!

I'm confused - how exactly is this balanced at all?

Recently got the game and upon completing the Arcadia quests the weapon shrine gave me this sword, which just allows me to spam exploding ice mushrooms to a degree that it kinda trivializes combat. Is this... intended/expected? I'm only level 26 lol

How to open the Strange Apparition Chest in first world dungeon thing?

EDIT: It was very stupid lol. You just hit it. Thats basically the one thing I didnt do. I had tried the lasso and kick but not my weapons.

I gotta be missing something painfully obvious lol.

Been running around this room for 20 minutes. Nothing on the wiki or google coming up.

Found it inside an owl statue so figured maybe break all the owls. I cant find anymore but maybe I missed one?

Do I need a new skill or something? Can I come back to this dungeon to get it?

Thanks yall.

How do I get this chest solo?

Windswept Valley just south east of Coliseum Crater. I see what I assume to be the 3 correct crystals but I dont see how I can get them all within the time limit. They seem to stay active for about 10 seconds yet I cant make the loop in less that 15.

Edit: So I fired up the game again today and did nothing different and I had no issue. So who knows, maybe a bug or maybe I'm an idiot.

New Player: This game is fantastic

As in the title, new player here. I wanted to gush about my experience so far. I picked up the game yesterday and I already have 14 hours in this game. It is a blast, all of the weapons I've found so far seem smooth and fun to use, the content feels like its long lasting and has plenty of room to grow. Haven't tried to roguelike mode yet, though. I did want to ask, what is everyones favorite part of the game? Mine currently is the mobility and combat controls of the game.

My Gameplay of Cloudheim

When I first brought this game up during a livestream last night, I was hyped. I described it to my co-host as basically The Legend of Zelda if Link could triple jump, ground slam, and air-juggle enemies and said he had to get it once it comes to Xbox later this year. The core concept felt incredibly refreshing.

I just finished recording a 10-minute gameplay run, and despite a few deaths and some expected performance hiccups, I’m happy to say I still really like this game. It has some rough edges to smooth out, but the baseline fun factor is definitely still there. Yet I deleted the demo- not because I didn't like my time with the game, but because I'm eagerly awaiting the console port for better graphics, more optimization, and coop fun with him since he doesn't play on PC.

When the combat clicks, it’s just as cool as advertised. Being able to launch enemies, air-juggle them, and pull off aggressive ground slams feels incredibly satisfying and dynamic. It brings a great kinetic energy to its Breath of the Wild inspiration.

To be clear, running "well" on my PC doesn't mean it runs perfectly. There are definitely some performance hitches and framerate drops on occasion, and the map layout can feel a little disorganized and messy to navigate right now.

I definitely died a few times during my run. Between the slight performance stutters and groups of basic enemies catching me off guard, you can get overwhelmed quickly if you don't respect the tracking and timing of your moves, which can get a little chaotic with everything going on on screen. But the deaths felt like part of the process of getting used to a very innovative toolset. I particularly love kicking enemies into each other, gust traps and bouncy fruit.

Overall, I’m still stoked! Whenever this eventually makes its way to Xbox, it’s going to be an absolute blast to play on a controller. Over to you now though- how are you finding the combat and exploration?

I'd Love the game and I think what could potentially make a 10/10 for me is if there was Character Creation.

Now I have started the game recently and put about 7-10 hours in. I really enjoy the gameplay loop and the combat feels really satisfying and floaty in a good way that I wouldn't expect. I love the Runari but I want to make a custom character especially for an RPG heavy game like this I just feel more immersed in a game when that is an option. Now I'd hate for the devs to waste all that time with creating the models, but they are already baked in the story and you could even leave in playable as like a sort of "Legacy" option. From what I gather in the story so far it doesn't seem like having totally custom characters would really hinder the story in any meaningful way. That would take the game from like a 9/10 for me to a perfect 10/10. Even in early access. It is so good there is so much to love here. I even just bought the support pack for the Jarl Erland Runari because he looks like the Lingering Will from KH2 and it is so freaking cool. I also went and bought my GF the game so we can play and I can further support the devs. I will keep playing for a while regardless but would just love to see some awesome customization in the future.

Excited to give the game a try

Picked up the game since it keeps recommending on steam. Just downloaded it on the MSI claw and can’t wait to get the kids to bed tonight to try it out. Any recommendations going into it playing on controller?

Multiplayer and coop

Hi everyone,
Me and my group of dads have just finished playthroughs of Enshrouded and Windrose, and are wondering what the multiplayer is like on this one. we typically use a server, 4-6 people on it and play through.

Tried Farever and fell off quick. How's this game?

I had no idea this game even existed until I saw it on one of the discounts posts. It looks really cool.

I purchased Farever and thankfully was able to get a refund even though I played three hours vs. the usual two limit window. The first 45 minutes or so were pretty cool, but the "so, is this it?" feeling set in fast after that. I gave it 2 more hours and called it quits. It feels insanely bare bones. I feel like a lot of the YouTube reviews and such were paid because a lot of their positives weren't impressive. For example, the combat and skill combinations were heavily praised in almost all of them. However, it felt incredibly bland to me.

How do you guys feel about this game?

Why is only one weapon constantly upgraded?

I looked up some information and found that weapon leveling and metal reinforcement are random, but in the co-op game I play, only one weapon keeps getting upgraded.

That single weapon is level 20, while all the other weapons are level 6.

Furthermore, that weapon has grown from lower metals to higher metals level 8, but the other weapons have never been upgraded.

Do you know why this is happening?

Having a blast so far, sincerely hoping they add more customization/personalization to the protags!

Brooks is my guy first of all. Jumped in earlier today and it’s really fun!

Would LOVE to see more options for customization. Hairstyles (or fur patterns), different armor types, capes, etc.

Also, would be icing on the cake if stuff like that would drop randomly from world loot. For example, you beat a boss, they chance drop a rare cape or cloak or boots. Something like that.

Aaaaand finally, would love to see the weapons always visible on your character! Would add some personalization :)

What do yall think? Any other ideas?
