The crown jewel of that time-capsule find—the 1943 Lincoln steel cent double struck on both the obverse and reverse—has officially hit the auction block!

This is a completely fresh-to-market discovery. After sitting untouched in private hands for over 40 years, it was recently graded and certified. Even more exciting for error collectors: because of its incredible condition, it holds top pop status as the highest-graded known example for this specific, dramatic wartime error combination.

To keep the incredible vintage provenance intact, the coin is being sold complete with its original blue vinyl Lonesome John flip from the early 1980s, preserving its direct link to the legendary founder of the Error Coin Museum.

The live listing is active for bidding on GreatCollections right now. If you want to check out the high-resolution macro photos, track the progress, or place a bid, you can view it directly here... https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/2192961/Mint-Error-1943-Lincoln-Cent-Double-Struck-PCGS-AU-55-Ex-Lonesome-John

Anyone heading to the ANA World Fair of Money in Pittsburgh later this August: GreatCollections will actually have this exact coin and flip on public display at their booth before the auction closes.

Thanks again to everyone for all the incredible feedback and excitement when I first shared this discovery!
