Can I truly be a Buddhist if I don't practice the cultural traditions of any Buddhist country?
If I were a person from a country where not much is known about Jesus, and I read about the life of Jesus and wanted to live by his rules of loving my neighbor and so on, I still couldn't call myself a Christian/Catholic, because to be that I would be missing going to Mass on Sundays, going to confession, and so many other things that are part of the religion.
So, being a Catholic by tradition (because I was born and raised in a very predominantly Catholic country) and having experienced the teachings of Buddha in my heart, I cannot call myself a Buddhist, since I have not followed the traditions of any country.
Even so, I take refuge in the Buddha, in the Dharma, and in the Sangha.
What is your opinion?
