Disney Villainous Storage Solution

Hello everyone, this past January my friends and I got fairly addicted to Villainous after discovering it. As I purchased expansion upon expansion, storage and portability soon became a big problem. After doing some research on what other people did and tweaking some things to fit my preferences, I found the perfect storage solution for me. So, I want to share my storage solution, thoughts, and experience for those who are still looking for ideas. (I don't post much so excuse my lack of experience)

First off, a big thanks to u/socaljoker and this post they made. My storage solution is heavily inspired by theirs.

Breakdown

The case I purchased is the CavernHold Fortress. I wanted a storage device that would have good build quality, space for everything plus more, and be compact enough to travel with. The one big downside is that it's kind of expensive. I looked into the briefcase-style that other people have done but ultimately I wanted more space than that.

The case consists of two layers:

Top Layer

As seen in pictures 2 and 3, here I put...

  • Game Boards
  • Game tokens (power, fate token, lock token, and strength tokens)
  • Villain specific tokens and items
  • Cauldron

This top layer is a little over 2 inches in height which is perfect for the cauldron and 2 of the game board boxes stacked on top of each other (I had to do a lot of reorganizing to find an optimal layout and am pretty happy with how I've done it in picture 2). I tested putting the game boards in the top layer without storage boxes to save space and ended up nicking the corners and edges of some of the boards so I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Bottom Layer

The bottom layer is much larger which made it perfect for villain deck and mover storage.

As seen in pictures 4 and 5, here I put...

  • Custom villain deck boxes (all cards are sleeved)
  • Villain guide books
  • Action cheat sheets
  • Villain movers

The bottom layer of the CavernHold fortress comes with various dividers to customize to your needs which was very useful. The main thing I wanted to accomplish here was to have room for all current 29 Villains and future ones with their decks sleeved and in boxes.

For those who are wondering how I did the deck boxes, I printed out the disneyexperience unsleeved tuck boxes on cardstock for each villain, cut each piece of that out, and individually glued them on each face of the deck boxes (disclaimer: it looks very good imo but took very very long lol). Due to disneyexperience not having tuck boxes for Treacherous Tides, Success at Any Cost, and Come, We Fly, I attempted to recreate designs for these villain tuck boxes using AI. They aren't perfect but look good enough to me (links for these at the bottom).

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Compact and portable
  • extra room to spare
  • Very customizable
  • Soooo many pockets
  • Room for future villains (I estimated that I could fit 7 more villains)

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Dividers for bottom layer can be a bit janky at times and don't fit for certain configurations (I had to glue some in)
  • Villain movers are piled in the bottom layer which causes them to shift around when you travel (although they still stay in their compartment) and you have to dig through them (I found that they are pretty durable though so I've had no issue with this)

Conclusion

Overall, I am really happy with this project that took me around 3 months to complete. I find that the pros far outweigh the cons and would definitely recommend what I've done for people who transport their villainous game or want a compact option. I want to give a big thanks to other people who have posted their storage ideas for Villainous on this reddit and those of you who responded to previous questions I have posted!

Please feel free to ask me questions!

Come We Fly on Amazon US

(UPDATE: No Longer Available!)

Purchased from Ravensburger Store on Amazon. Delivery is 9/1-9/7. I’ve honestly lost the hype over the Target exclusive movers so I ordered!

Digital Villainous

I've been vibe coding a digital version of Villainous. Special thanks to David Fenner for the sound boards that have helped me pull sound effects for the cards. I added a solo mode and it was pure luck that a 1-4 was never rolled so I never got fated.

Horned King / Witches of Morva clarification — who chooses, and do you have to pay the full penalty?

Quick rules clarification for The Witches of Morva. The card says,

“When The Witches of Morva are played, the Horned King must immediately either lose 2 Power or discard two cards from his hand.”

We ran into two questions: who actually gets to choose which penalty happens, the Horned King player or the player who Fated them? And does the chosen penalty have to be fully possible?

My girlfriend was playing Horned King and only had 1 Power when I played this. She chose the “lose 2 Power” option, lost the 1 Power she had, and avoided having to discard two cards. Is that legal, or since she couldn’t actually lose the full 2 Power, would she have had to choose the discard-two-cards option instead, assuming she had at least two cards? Basically, does “lose 2 Power” mean you must actually be able to lose 2, or can you choose it even when you only have 0–1 Power and just lose whatever you have?

Next expansion should be "Explorer/treasure hunters" themed and include Commander Lyle, M. Medusa, and Clayton.

But in all honesty, i feel like more recent villains might get the spotlight first, like Magnifico or Namari (though all be honest, where is Frollo?). What ya'll think are the next villains? I do feel like they're running out of options, unless they expand to TV shows or Sequels.

House rules...

Hey all... now since we have some new villains on the board, I'd love to rehash some of the house rules you make for villains or the game as a whole.

My husband and I play weekly 💗

Villains Bracket

Over the past few months, a friend of mine and I have been doing a bracket of Villains. This was before Ernesto and Hans came into the game so once we have Sanderson Sisters we’ll start another one.

We filled out the bracket with Star Wars characters assuming they’d get knocked out pretty early and Darth Vader ended up as the winner! Turns out his mechanics are kind of broken lol. Anyone else do a similar competition?

Disney Villainous for Kids

Hi! I saw a few threads about this, but they were all older with old comments, so I wanted to ask the people of reddit: including the current expansions, what characters do your kids enjoy play, and what is their age and general reading level?

Back story: I am leading a free kids board game night monthly, and I know what characters my kid and I enjoy playing, and I know there are a lot of general "these characters are easier", but I'd love to poll the sub for your anecdotes. The more feedback I have, the easier it'll be for me to explain characters to kids, and help match them to their best character for having fun!

Thanks in advance!! Also, if I missed a thread in my searches that already covers this recently, please share it.

Success At Any Cost and Come, We Fly! have been added to the All Cards' Errata and Clarifications 6.0 document!

I just posted the newest version of the All Cards' Errata and Clarifications document, where you can find a detailed explanation of how EVERY card in the game works and their weird interactions! This document contains the official rulings used in major events.

You can find it in the files section of BoardGameGeek
https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/245522/unofficial-disney-villainous-all-cards-errata-and

Here are the changes:
-Added all Success At Any Cost and Come, We Fly! cards.
-Added clarifications to all cards that ask you to choose or find cards in a deck or discard pile that you should show them to the other player.
-Fixed Beetle Maui, its clarification was completely wrong.
-Improved the wordings on lots of cards.

As always, if you find any mistakes, let me know and I'll fix them.

Did I get a knockoff of Success At Any Cost or just a bad copy?

I got Success At Any Cost from Amazon and it seemed it was official from the source. The box looks and feels like normal but the cards feel like they’re made from a different material than every other pack and some of the text is a bit faded like it was misprinted. Has any else experienced this? What should I do?

Final word on Ernesto and Family Blessings

Playtester Lordoftheplains got a direct message from Mike Mulvihill finally confirming Family Blessings is discarded when the Hero it is attached to is found and replayed, like every other card in the game. We can lay this topic to rest now...

I bought the original first gam, but should i replace components with Introduction to Evil?

Basically the title. I know there were some nerfs and buffs in Introduction to Evil, so should i replace them? Like, use the new Captain Hook over the old lock mechanic
