Canada’s Secret Anti-Drone Weapon: The Canada Goose
The Royal Canadian Air Force has been training Canada Geese to intercept and destroy strategic bombers as early as March,1959. After then Prime Minister John Diefenbaker scrapped the AVRO Arrow program, it was a natural, cheaper alternative. Now, this decades-old Cold War countermeasure, code-named “Cobra Chicken” has been repurposed to intercept potential US or Russian military drone weapons, should either nation decide to invade. CFB Alert, Nunavut has already deployed a gaggle of living interceptors in place near the Greenland border to help with that nation’s defence, as part of Canada’s new alliance with the EU. Lieutenant-General Jamie Speiser-Blanchet, CMM, CD, the current commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force added that in addition, the geese would be equipped with electronic countermeasures to disrupt the drone’s control, should the violent pecking fail to destroy the invading aircraft’s flight capabilities. - B.D.
