Mall World Experience Survey

After I created my mall world questionnaire, I put together these follow up questions based on our collective answers and my own experiences. The goal is to compare notes, see what we have in common or not in common and help navigate our experience.
This is more about what we all experience In Mall World. I will post results as soon as I can. Thanks!

What do people dream about around the world?

The dream journal app Elsewhere recently added a (fully anonymous) global statistics map. I'm making Elsewhere with some friends, at the moment there are over 150k dreams recorded from 185 countries.

The map layers are: (click on the links to see the full map layers):

* Most characteristic symbols and themes: What symbols and themes does each country dream about the most, relative to other countries? (updated every day). Based on a list of over 100 symbols and 100 themes, you can see for example currently:
- USA = Gun
- Canada = Snow
- Cuba = Car
- Jordan = Bomb
- Australia = Coffee
- China = Camera

This map also includes the country's average mood (sentiment) as the background shading. Some interesting patterns are emerging here too: a general tendency seems to be that the richest and poorest countries have the worst dreams, and those in the middle have the best dreams. But perhaps it's more linguistic or cultural. In general Anglophone, Francophone, and Asian countries are dreaming badly, whereas Eastern Europe, South America and the Middle East are dreaming well. Take this with a grain of salt though as we haven't yet controlled for the effect of language on the sentiment analysis tools.

* Frequency of themes in each country: So far we've looked at Religion & Spirituality, School, War, Romance, Food & Eating and Mother. There are also some interesting findings here. The Middle East is clearly the most religious dream region, and the countries dreaming most about war include the Congo (DRC), Syria, Jordan, Iran (and this was before the internet cut out), Ukraine and Russia.

* Dreams about places around the world: These are only dreams that people submit manually to the map, so there are only about 200 of them. But most are very interesting! There are also some dreams by famous dreamers we've added, including Jung and Natsume Sōseki (see which ones you can find!).

Controls and privacy: Every user can opt out of contributing the global statistics in settings, and no identifying information is shown in the statistical maps. Countries with too few dreamers (e.g. <10 on the symbols map) are not shown. We've made efforts in the algorithm to prevent individual users with many dreams over-influencing the statistics, and included basic confidence levels on every stat based on the number of dreams or dreamers that contributed to it.
