Octavia E. Butler: The Last Interview: And Other Conversation* (*Unaffiliated, Long Story Short)

Ok, I'm a bit touchy about this right now because my old greyhound (14.5 years, which is very old for a greyhound) has definitely reached the palliative care stage, but whenever dogs are mentioned in the novels it seems to be quite negatively. Has anyone thought about this and come up with a more positive reading? (I was going to ask if anyone could thrown me a bone here, but the pun seemed a bit too bad even by my standards!)
