Loving it, but confused

I just discovered this game, it's so beautiful and I'm having a fun time with it. The combat is engaging but I'm confused with the typing some, I'm slowly learning what weapon does well against another typing and it's very fun to learn. I just beat >!Curtis, Prince of Laughter!< Learning to parry the moves was hard for me as I'm not good at parrying but once I did it was a blast to fight them.

I hope I keep learning and getting better because I want to keep playing the game. I'm doing the "soulslike" option, I'm not sure what that changes from the "story" option, probably makes bosses harder or something. Enjoying it regardless!

This keeps confusing me. My "role" in-game is my load-out, great, why when I kill a bunch of bosses do I get their "role" as an item that I cannot then find in my inventory anywhere? I thought it would be like, a costume or something but there is nowhere to put it. When I loot a role does that just mean it might be an aspect, might be a mask, etc? These are not the masks you get by collecting mask shards or anything like that.

I just got one from a gatekeeper somewhere in the area around /after the coliseum save point. But I don't think he gave me an aspect or a mask. This is unnecessarily confusing. Thanks.

I'm trying to 100% the game, I am very close to finishing, currently on ng+2, right before P&B bossfight, and I'm doing the quests to get the 3rd ending. However, when I finished Lithos questline, I did nor recieve his role. I did the exact same thing in ng+ where i didn't got it either, and that made me miss the God of Man ending. Is there a way to fix this bug? It would be really unfortunate if I had to make a new save just because of this.
