A Warning About Hail and Roofers

A reminder to Fountain Residents, who just got hit by hail and are now going to have 12 people knocking their door a day minimum. These roofing companies have a history of spotty work, lawsuits for contractor fraud, hidden "notice of intent" and inspection fees they trick you into signing before they look at the roof, and/or bus in high school kids to call in every roof without ever even looking and telling you to file claims (jacking up everyone's rates and wasting your time):

Wilcox Roofing, MD Roofing, Native Roofing, Premier Roofing, AmeriPro (ESPECIALLY GEORGE), Total Roofing, Excel Roofing (Not to be confused with Excel Construction), Treeline, Petrali Roofing, Priority Roofing, Patriot Roofing.

All the companies listed above have a bad history of submitting false claims, spotty work resulting in lawsuits or workmanship disputes, failed permits (or stop-work orders for failure to even file a permit), or other issues. Most of them almost exclusively survive by some combination of door-knocking, horrible install quality, fraud, or misrepresentation of damages.

Some good honest roofing companies include:

Golden Bee Roofing, Blue Ox, Homestead Roofing (He has a YouTube channel about roofing as well, very honest about the process), Bumble Roofing, Just Roof and Gutters.

For independent inspectors, who do not install roofs and therefore have no conflict of interest:

Gary Manlove of larkspur. The man is a genius at roof tile, and was one of the original writers for the most well renowned guidebooks for American roofing tile. ***JBA - Roofing & Solar Consulting***. This guy literally wrote the book on tile roofing used for code in El Paso County.

Stephen Barnes of Colorado Springs. He's good for an honest opinion on shingles, and is a published expert at flat roofing and has ranked higher in roofing competitions than any other Colorado based roofer. ***Colorado Consultants For Roofing.***

Dan Cupid of Denver. One of the most well renowned for commercial design in ***Colorado. Professional Construction Services, Inc.*** He's a bit of an asshole, but he's earned his ego. If you're looking to invest a lot of money into designing a new top tier roof that you don't have to worry about hail every few years, he would be your expert to call

Daniel Demolin of Parker. Good at forensic investigations. ***Amtech Solutions, Inc.***. If you wind up in a dispute with your insurance company about damages to a higher-end property I recommend giving him a call. But he's a bit too expensive if you have less than 3,000 ft of roof

(Note: I am not with any of these companies, I am a retired local roofing consultant that was on the roofs of Colorado Springs for 40 years. I was also the number one commenter in our r/roofing for two full years straight with this account and intermittently for two additional years before that with my prior account, until I gave it a break this year after a cancer diagnosis and pulled out of the field completely. My only interest by posting this is to prevent the people of Colorado from getting scammed)
