the tree basically becomes the whole building. terrace at the base, staircase through the middle, then that glass room tucked into the canopy as the final depth layer.
Pulled this for the stacked layering. Read it bottom to top: cobblestones at the base with a small deer standing in the shallows, then the first wooden bridge crossing the river with lantern-lit cottages clinging to both cliff walls, then a second higher bridge arcing over the canyon, then fog-wrapped mountain peaks above. Every horizontal band is its own depth zone. The deer is what makes the scale of the village read.

the scale does everything here. the garden stays almost perfectly controlled while that dragon turns the entire background into one giant depth layer.
Been playing around with the updated character creator a bit and started workshopping these two.
The astronaut is Astra. He’s basically been dropped into a world he doesn’t really understand, and every time he thinks he’s getting somewhere, something else seems to go wrong. At this point it’s almost like the place hates him more than he hates it.
And then there’s Mr. Sunflower, who has a habit of appearing at ...exactly the worst possible time. Usually right in the middle of something serious when Astra really does not need another problem. He definitely plans it. haha.
I don’t totally know where the story is going yet, but that's the fun part for me. Just been building them out a little at a time and seeing what I like, haha..
Anyone else been messing around with characters lately and giving them way more backstory than you planned?

the black plating could easily disappear into the frame, but the white mountain opening and those energy ribbons keep every edge readable. really strong silhouette control here.
