Sheldon WILL appear in season 3.

It only makes sense, in The Big Bang Theory, it is mentioned that Sheldon recieved his doctorate, at 16, in 1997. Season 2 of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage takes place in ‘96, so season 3 will likely head into ‘97.

I have a strong feeling that at some point in the season they will do an episode with Iain Armitage guest starring, because thats a huge achievement and I doubt it’d just be a “Oh shledon got his doctorate!” and move on with the episode.

And I get this show is only focusing on Georgie and Mandy, but storylines have been made for Missy and the rest of the family, why not a one-off with Sheldon? I think the show has established itself enough to where an episode with him could be good.

Or maybe I could be wrong, and the writers forget about this detail.

Cooper family dynamics

Isn't it true that whereas Mary struggles to see the perspectives of her children, Georgie's version of being responsible also subjects the women in her life to a version of "protection" that is too simplistic and controlling? Whenever Mary or Mandy do stuff that he has reasons (often good ones) to be against, instead of listening he always takes it as a personal offense and tries to control them.

I say this not to bash Georgie, who we all agree is doing his best as a young man forced to grow up quickly, but to say this is simply what family do for and to each other. Sidenote, it seems like a theme that Mary often makes questionable choices when it comes to her love interests: George Sr. (who Meemaw was initially against), Pastor Rob, Leonard's Dad in TBBT and now potentially Fagenbacher.

Does Anyone Else Not Like Georgie?

He has admirable traits but he is rude, like genuinely rude and has been since Young Sheldon. He doesn’t respect any authority and isnt even above telling his mom to butt out of his illegal gambling while he lived with them. Even lately, when he left Jim to his own devices for the online management and Jim accidentally deleted everything, he said something so mean in regard to him not even wanting him to be there in the first place and its just terrible.

Idk, I like the character but I also don’t. I think I’m more annoyed at how everyone glazes him like he has no flaws.

Anyone else feel like this is the Georgie torture show now

It’s like every episode something happens to him that is just horrible most recently his mother and meemaw becoming friendly with the guy trying to run him out of business. And whatever risky thing Mandy is doing (by risky I mean something not inherently wrong but the things she tries that could end in disaster for her and Georgie mostly money wise funnily enough). I’m surprised there aren’t more episodes with Georgie having panic attacks

The season 2 finale

This is so funny to see people trashing Mary AGAIN after the final episode.

I was watching the episode thinking: well, finally, they are showing Georgie very flawed instead of idealistic. He was so obnoxious throughout the whole episode, and it went even worse in the end.

He is so controlling about his mother’s personal life. He has no right to choose if she dates or not and whom she dates. A major red flag for a son. If you forget, he was the same with her previous boyfriend too with which she went on a couple of dates and he threw a major tantrum because he wants his mother to be lonely forever while he has a family. A very selfish move on his part.

Now she didn’t even consider dating the guy before Georgie’s repeated tantrum. She was flattered by the guy’s attention. She was lonely. She might have wanted for him to make the move to feel desirable regardless of her answer. They met when she came to his shop to say everything she thought of him. And he was shown to like this a LOT. He previously dated Audrey who is very dominant in her relationships. Audrey and Mary constantly fight because they are very similar. So the guy definitely has a type. I think he truly liked Mary and pissing off Georgie in the same time was just the icing on the cake that he enjoyed very much.

Connie hit it off with him because they are very similar.

So in the end, Georgie’s super humiliating tantrum in front of the whole Mary’s Bible study and him manipulating CeeCee pushed her into inviting the Georgie’s business rival on a date (the only correct reaction to the tantrum, humiliation, manipulation and the attempt to be controlled as an adult by your child).

I don’t think it will last long because he is only attracted to her dominancy and not all the other aspects of her + she doesn’t know him well enough yet. But man, how satisfying it was to see her inviting him in response to Georgie being a control freak.

WTF is wrong with Mary?

Why is she always dating her son's rivals in their respective work? Didn't she also date the university guy from TBBT, that Sheldon had beef with?

But to another point, I can totally understand Georgie here, this guy has a child & wife and the only thing he has in terms of work is the store. Plus he has to pay off debt (his own as well as his wife's).

Is Mary ok in the head? Wtf is wrong with her to fall for the most obv manipulation, and then choosing a guy she knows for like a week, over her firstborn son and her only granddaughter???

She also been throwing temper tantrums and literally acting like a child the entire episode.

Also really disappointed with Connie and Audrey here, both really insufferable this episode (even though I like Connie overall, her backstabbing her own grandson and not even attempting to resolve the situation was really a new low, even for her).

TBBT and this series are now only 7 years apart

In the TBBT storyline, Sheldon and Leonard met four years before the actual show started. Which would make it 2003. Right now, the GMFM Season 2 is in 1996.

This creates a really interesting situation because if they continue GMFM for more than a couple more seasons, then they ought to reference TBBT in some meaningful way.

In addition, Mary from TBBT is only 11 years removed from Mary right now in 1996. They also need to develop her character meaningfully to justify such a change in behaviour in just a few years.

I think the best approach is to acknowledge that this show is no longer in the same canon as TBBT and that these different versions of the same characters, that could give them a lot more creative freedom in terms of Mary, Georgie, etc.

Season 2 Finale: My Take on Mary’s Big Decision

Spoiler alert for anyone who has yet to see the season finale yet. But I wanted to talk a bit more about Mary’s decision to…

…date Fagenbacher.

Now I must say, it’s well within Mary’s right to start dating again. George has been gone two years and as hard as it’s been, it’s good that she’s getting back on her feet again. I think that Joseph one she went on the date with earlier in Season 2 was perfect for her.

But to date Fred Fagenbacher of all people is beyond me. The man who:

- Once dated her son’s mother-in-law
- Actively works to run her son out of business and inadvertently cost Mary her own home
- Tried to sabotage Georgie’s attempts to honor her late husband

Now don’t get me wrong: Georgie is no saint by any means. Pouring bleach into Fagenbacher’s tow trucks was outright illegal and unacceptable. But Mary isn’t even aware of that (yet, and could make for a great plot line), and all she sees is what a horrible person Fagenbacher has been towards her son, who is completely selfless and does everything for everyone else.

I don’t blame Georgie for forbidding her from seeing CeeCee. Some people believe it’s out of character but put yourself in his shoes. His widowed mother wants to date the man who has been vocal about wanting to run her son out of business. If she’s willing to be that naive, why would Georgie ever trust her again, let alone with his daughter?

Just my thoughts. Excited to see this plot line carry over into Season 3. What do you all think?

This show is turning into an everybody vs Georgie

I love this spinoff, I’m so glad they’re exploring Georgie’s storyline further, but season 2 has been really progressing in a way I don’t like. Everybody is so much worse morally than in the first season it’s terrible.

Mary, who wasn’t great in Young Sheldon but was still somewhat tolerable, is horrible now. The plotline with Fagenbacher feels like it was written just to make Georgie suffer. Mary also sides with Fred, somebody who is trying to drive her own son out of business (DESPITE MARY PUTTING UP HER HOUSE FOR IT) over Georgie!

Then there’s Connie who was fine but still a bit annoying in Young Sheldon, especially toward later seasons when her character devolved into “rude and sarcastic grandma.” In the latest episode when she was sent to spy on Fagenbacher by Georgie, she drinks with him and openly says that if Dale ever dies she would date him.

I like this series, but man is it hard to watch sometimes.

For TBBT fans

i just started GMFM and have only watched till ep 8 and honestly im kinda disappointed. i am very attached to the TBBT universe and i honestly loved YS so much since they actually had references from the characters in TBBT (like the s2 finale where they show the younger versions of all the characters and ofc older sheldon narrating the entire thing correlating it with his life now) but up until now im kinda disappointed with this spinoff. i know its only focused on georgie and mandy but not seeing sheldon just feels wrong. i don't hate it but it makes me kinda sad that there aren't any references from the characters in TBBT. maybe its just an attachment issue but yeah, anyone else agree? and should i continue it?

really wish they wrote mandy’s character better

dont get me wrong, i love watching ys and g&m but mandys character is actually so unlikable

  1. yeah, georgie was dumb for lying, except she actually like slept with him a second time WHILE she was pregnant after she found out he was 17..

  2. she just has like a bad attitude. like i get she wanted to distance herself from georgie. he’s a minor. except.. she just was plain rude. i can get the first few like weeks she was upset bc he lied but the way she went about it, like ’you ruined my life’ when it takes two

the sense of entitlement is irritating too. she expects everybody to bend over backwards for her because she got knocked up. like when she wanted to work. nothing wrong with having a career, but she had a literal NEWBORN and not too many options for childcare. she shouldn’t get mad at georgie’s family for having lives and not being able to watch her baby because she wants to work. which.. keep in mind.. SHE STILL HAS PARENTS. she is too grown to burden others just because she doesnt like her mom.

after the tornado, they stayed in sheldon’s room. which was fine. they were homeless. but when sheldon got back, mandy outright refused to leave his room as if it was her house? it isn’t sheldon’s fault she decided to ruin her own life and stay (free of charge) in someone else’s home 🫩

she also couldve just stayed with her parents from jump, but only decided to leave because of a bathroom issue. it’s giving user in a major way. yes, she wasnt ‘cool’ with her mom but she’s like 30. why would you put a 13 year old out his own room when you have the option of living with your parents? it’s bad enough you’re unemployed WITH a child. to have that option is a blessing in itself.

not to mention the HYPOCRISY. she worked, like literally showed up to a job everyday with her ex boyfriend, and got mad at georgie for being uncomfy with it. but got mad because georgie was getting featured (ONCE) on the show she got fired on.

her actor though is amazing i just wish her character was written a bit better. or maybe she was written to be infuriating on purpose because they’re destined to divorce

out of order season 2?

I'm watching the show on Paramount+, and I swear, each episode is completely off topic from the last. the recaps definitely aren't from the previous episode...idk if I'm just watching it out of order or what.

Montana and Will on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

This is from a few months ago but definitely after they wrapped shooting for Season 2. Will is pretty damn funny. It's weird--at least to me--to see Montana on a talk show without Emily.

Will they show Georgie attending college?

In the timeline currently, Georgie is 21 and it's been around 3-4 years since he dropped out. But in a 2018 TBBT episode Sheldon mentioned how Georgie went to community college for a semester. I wonder if they'll ever show that or if that'll just be retconned. Also if they do show that I wonder what'll compel georgie to attend college.

S2 e14 why did Mandy bring up Sheldon in the argument

What was the point in this besides it just coming off as a rude comment which I suppose was intentional but still. For context this is the ep where Mandy buys Missy condoms. In the argument Mandy tells Mary Sheldon will die a virgin which okay. I don’t understand the point of bringing it up Sheldon’s in California he has nothing to do with this why is he mentioned
