So apparently there’s a leak floating around on China Rednote again, that allegedly shows the concept moodboard for the overall season of Girls Planet 2.

The first thing that came to mind wasn’t IZ*ONE, Kep1er, or even typical K-pop girl groups. It was honestly Little Mix, Fifth Harmony, and more recently KATSEYE.

The whole thing screams “global girl group” rather than “K-pop girl group with foreign members” this time.
Which honestly makes sense if you look at Mnet’s history. They’ve been experimenting with bigger and bigger multinational projects for years. For boys, there tried Korean-Chinese parallel groups project in BP2, then for girls, they tried on Produce 48 with the Korean-Japanese collaboration, then Kep1er with Korea-China-Japan representation.

It feels like the next logical step would be creating a group that can genuinely market in the US music industry rather than primarily as a K-pop act.

The audition announcement kind of supports this theory too. Mnet keeps emphasizing worldwide recruitment, global diversity, and applicants from all over the world. Combined with the alleged moodboard talking about connecting East and West, celebrating different cultures, and becoming a new-generation global icon, it really feels like they’re chasing the same market KATSEYE is targeting after their success

Am I the only one getting strong Western girl group vibes from this? Because if this leak is real, Girls Planet 2 might end up being the closest thing we’ve seen to a Korean-produced global pop girl group rather than another traditional survival show group.👀👀👀
