Sketch for spray painting & some questions

I'm new to spray painting, did my first piece the other day. I used a doodle grid, and thought I'd do that with this too.

Now, I decided to make this sketch with spray painting in mind from the start, and this was the result.

I used alcohol markers, as that was what I hade at home.

Would you do a full sketch like this in preparation for a spray paint job?And would it be better to use something like posca-markers to simulate the opacity of spray paint? I was thinking about it, but then you couldn't really do gradients at all, right?

And lastly, does this look conducive to spray painting? Any pit falls I've stepped in?

This was really cool

I saw this somewhere and was surprised by how clearly I remembered it, and loved it as a kid.

Sources say it was on a building that was once a tenement/apartment, then hotel, then not much, at 1328 Grand. This puts it right around where the building housing "No Other Pub" and "KC Hooley House" is today. It was one of the casualties of the P&L development.

It was painted for 1988 NCAA Men's tournament famously won by Danny and the Miracles. I've seen it attributed to an artist named Ramiro Fauve, self-described as a "multidisciplinary artist, muralist, and singer-songwriter" born in Argentina and based in California.

The artwork is really good, especially compared to other big sports murals in the Midwest (google "Jonathan Toews mural" for reference).
