🦠 DO NOT EAT HERE 🐀🪳

So recently someone posted about the Hudson Thai spot (yes…the one with the roach that looked like it had been waterboarded in fish sauce then cooked 🤢), and it got me thinking about the cleanliness of some of the other places I’ve eaten in Washington Heights.
Funny enough, about two weeks ago I commented on another thread explaining why I no longer eat at the two Chinese restaurants closest to me: Great Wall (181st & Fort Washington) and New Golden Star (181st & Broadway).

I had terrible experiences at both, and after seeing the Hudson Thai post, I figured I’d see what the Department of Health had to say.

Y’ALL…

Please start looking up these restaurants before ordering from them.

I’m not originally from New York and I’ve only been here for about four years, and I literally just found out that NYC has a public website where you can look up every restaurant’s inspection history, violations, and current grade status. The Health Department publishes inspection results for restaurants citywide through its ABCEats database. (NYC Home 4)

I checked New Golden Star’s inspection history, and what I found was enough for me to make sure I never go back. Their Department of Health page currently shows a Grade Pending status, and the violations listed are UN. REAL. (See the screenshots.)

I’m not here to tell anyone where they should or shouldn’t eat. Spend your money however you want. But if you’re ordering from somewhere regularly, it’s worth taking 30 seconds to check their inspection history first. I know I will from now on.

Stay safe out there, Heightsers? Heighties? Highs?? and please use this tool before trying a new spot:

Recently checked out the new/renovated Dunkin’ on West 181st St & Fort Washington Ave. Decent at best.(6/27/2026)

My own order was a medium Dazzleberry Coolata & a Stars & Stripes Donut.

Late Night Construction at 181st & Broadway

Has anyone else near 181st St and Broadway been getting absolutely worn down by the overnight construction?

There has been jackhammering, stone grinding, paving, and other street construction work going on after 10:00 PM at the corner of 181st and Broadway for nearly the past NINE MONTHS on what feels like a nightly basis.

As the NYC 311 website states: “Commercial, Street, and Highway Construction is allowed on weekdays between 7 AM and 6 PM. However, emergency work necessary for public safety, or work that cannot be performed during normal work hours may occur after hours or on weekends.”

If this overnight noise occurrence had happened one night, or even one week, I think most people could understand it being classified as “emergency work.” But after nine months straight, it’s getting pretty difficult to tolerate.

I sleep next to just one of the dozens of Broadway-facing windows in my building alone, among dozens of other residential buildings facing this same intersection. I genuinely cannot be the only person in this subreddit living nearby and slowly losing it from this on a nightly basis. Does anyone have any idea how much longer this is supposed to go on for?

Pedestrian hit by van at 183rd and Pinehurst 6/23

Anyone know of the victims condition or what happened to the driver that hit her? There was a big crowd outside following the crash. Pedestrian was in the cross walk and the driver had a stop sign so I really don’t know how he managed to hit someone.

Can I pet that dawg?

Hello neighbors. I have been through a lot this year and in my efforts to keep my happy chemicals up, I do love to interact with a dog, every now and again. If you have a friendly dog that is receptive to affection/petting if we vibe, I'd love to meet up.

I LOVE a dog that just wants to be everyone's friend, but I'm also totally into pups who are friendly, but slower to warm up. Having to earn a little trust doesn't bother me as it reminds me to also be good about my own boundaries.

I love all dogs. I don't mind if they jump up at first and I have been around many dogs, so I know what to expect. If your dog does tricks, awesome. If they don't, awesome. I can bring whatever treats they're allowed to have or venmo you some dollars in exchange for you to bring treats I can give them. If they can't have treats and they get a ball as a reward or something, that's cool too. I'm very flexible about every situation involving a dog.

I absolutely would love to meet the tiniest dogs or the biggest pups on the block. That would make my day.

I'd like to keep my options pretty local and I live near W 181st and Audubon Ave, so I'd say I'm willing to travel up to FWA and a few blocks in each direction from W 181. I'm fine with sidewalk meetups, but also Bennett Park or similar works for me.

Please feel free to message me with as much information about your dog and yourself as you would like.

Thank you in advance. I can't wait to meet your dogs. Please feel introduce yourself if I forget. I get excited about animals. <3 if I cry a little, I'm just really happy. I have my own tissues if I need them.

(also potentially available as emergency dog walk backup/petsitter if needed? I currently only usually do catsit visits and babysit in the area, but I'm always down for jobs if they just work! ☺️)
