Cleaning day

Just picked up the Bodyguard 2.0 and put 100 rounds through it. Hopefully it it be a more comfortable EDC during the summer. PDP has been my edc prior. Pd380 is the wife's edc.

Those of you who have acquired your CCL.

I'm about 5 weeks out after taking my class and have been checking the portal about once a week for updates. My question is did you receive email updates as your application moved up in the queue?

Fingerprinted CCL timeline

So it’s been 31 days since I submitted for a CCL with fingerprints is it normal for it not to have a timer for how many days remaining yet even? Most people’s posts I see they have the counter on there and for me it says they haven’t even viewed my submission yet. Saw in January the Average was around 46 days Illinois has to speed this process up my Florida non resident was all approved and shipped within 2 weeks of submission. Anyone submitted with fingerprints in 2026 and how was your turn around?

RDB-c / RDB hunter transfers?

Before I have a stroke arguing with shops to see if they will transfer one of these, where you have guys bought these from? This seems the best option under 1000 for non scary rifles . I refuse to pay 1500 or more for a neutered A.R. 15 or Springfield dorsal fin blaster.

Teaching Your Mom to Shoot

Saturday was Common Caliber’s second run of Girls Only, our basic pistol class designed for and focused on new women shooters.

We built this class for two reasons.

First, we have found that many women enjoy a training environment made up of other women. In our experience teaching brand new shooters in CCL classes and other basic pistol courses, men who have never shot before can suddenly become firearms experts the second a woman is in the class. Not only is that annoying, it can be distracting and can make new shooters hesitate to continue training in the future.

Second, this class is rooted in the entire reason we started Common Caliber.

While we enjoy training everyone, law enforcement and other professionals who carry as part of their job often have more opportunities to train. That training may be provided by an agency, paid for by an agency, done on agency time, or some combination of all three.

These five women did not have that luxury.

These five women are mothers and working regular jobs. In just one day, they went from having maybe shot a couple of times, or never having handled a firearm at all, to running advanced drills.

We felt it would be a disservice to beat them over the head all day with basic strings of fire at 5 and 7 yards. Once the basics were locked in, these ladies were ready to turn it up.

By the end of the course, they were engaging multiple targets, working through malfunctions, shooting from varying positions, shooting on the move, and more.

Every one of them was smiling and laughing, and it was truly a pleasure for us to teach them.

With or without roadblocks and barriers set in place by our state to restrict firearms ownership, we do our best to make sure quality training is available and accessible to everyday people living everyday lives.

Make sure you train. Make sure your mom trains. And let that training be with Common Caliber.

FAQ

Why isn't <name of range> listed here?

If it isn't:

 • open to the general public at least one day a week, or
 • members-only with a token membership fee,

then I don't list it.

Flying out of ORD with checked pistol

I'm flying with my gun in checked luggage for the first time soon. I'll be flying out of O'Hare on a United flight.

Does the check-in process take a lot of extra time? Do the airline employees generally know how to handle this?

Any tips for making this go smoother?

Is Stoeger double defense worth it?

I know people have been telling me to get a pump action but I always have a special place in my heart for double barrels. Does anyone have any experience with the double defense series by Stoeger Condor?

Guns.com won't ship Illinois compliant guns to Illinois?

I have my eye on the new Springfield SA-35 4" version. It has a 15 round mag so it should be Illinois legal. I know for a fact because all of my local retailers carry the full size version which has the same mag capacity. They just don't have the 4" version in store yet so I was looking online. The only place I could find one in stock is Guns and they won't ship to Illinois. Any advice on how to find one?

I just got my FOID. What's next?

Hey Everyone,

I just had my FOID approved by the ISP, and I assume they will mail my card soon. My question is, what are the next steps? I want to purchase a Glock 9mm as a starter weapon and get my CCL by the end of summer. Do I have to wait for the physical card before purchasing? Can I just go to the range and start shooting once I have my weapon? Any input for a new gun owner is appreciated.

TIA

My next guns for collection

So last year I got my first gun which is a Ruger wrangler 22lr pistol and this year I got my second gun a Savage arms 64 22lr rifle.

For the last gun I want to get this year I am debating between three guns.

First one to complete my 22lr collection it's Chiappa 1911-22

Second is double barrel Stoger condor double defense 12 gauge

And the fifth one would be a 22WMR revolver I'm thinking of a pathfinder in 22Mag

I know I'm getting first and second one but I'm still debating on what 22 WMR model I want to get

LaRue BAR*NONE

Looks like ol' uncle Mark has been sniffing snow again. The fine folks over at Cowboy Geissele have now debuted a new bolt gun based off their LT rifles that is 50 state legal. LaRue products are solid so this probably wouldnt be a bad move if you wanted a mag fed bolt gun in a common cartridge.

TL;DR: Cocaine Cowboy DS-15 dropped.

New ATF Gun Form Recognizes Medical Marijuana's Federally Legal Status Under Trump's Rescheduling Move

So this is super interesting. I didn't notice this part of the form change when I was filling out my federal comments regarding all of the ATF's proposed changes yesterday. The section regarding drug use is going to be changed and says that only “use or possession of marijuana for recreational purposes” is federally prohibited, leaving out the prior form’s mention of medical cannabis.

https://www.regulations.gov/document/ATF-2026-0001-0001 this is the Federal register posting for it. The comment period doesn't end until August 6th.
